New Tracks Laid and New Double Cars Ordered to Equip the Line. The work of reconstructing the Belt and lith street tracks of the Capitol, North O Street and South Washington Railroad Com- pany has been completed. The company is now turning its attention to the question of a motor and new equipments in the way of new cars, 4c. In rebuilding the road the eighty-pound girder groove rail of improved pattern has been laid on white oak hewed ties placed three feet and» half between the centers, Upward of thirteen miles of track has been laid ina substantial manner, capable, it is stated, of sustaining the heaviest motor for street cars that is built, The question as to the kind of motor to be employed has not been settled, but is receiving due attention. An order has just been placed with the Pull- man Palace Car Co. of Chicago, Ill; for twenty two-horse open cars, to be delivered and put in use early in June next, and im order to provide for the storage of these cars and those to fol- low, to entirely equip the road with modern cars, the management contemplates the erec- tion of suitable buildings on square 330, re- cently purchased, and eventually consolidate the entire plant at that point, dwsposing of the present property at 3d and B streets southwest aud 12th and V streets northwest. ‘The directors of the company say it is their intention to employ first-class accommodations for its patrons. suber beeen OPERATIONS OF THE ROAD. What Capt. Fiebeger Says of the Georgetown “and Tenleytown Railroad. In reply to the resolution of the Senate directing the Commissioners of the District of Columbia to investigate the operations of the Georgetown and Tenleytown Railroad Com- pany. Capt. Fiebeger today forwarded to the Commissioners the following report: “The track of the Georgetown and Tenley- town Railroad Company begins at K or Water streets and (as a single track) extends to a point nearly opposite the intersection of Grace street; from that point to the terminus at the District line the road is operated on two or a double track. The road is laid with improved or ‘grooved girder rail’ toa point just north of the intersection of Massachusetts avenue with the Tonleytown road, which is north of the limits of the corporation of Georgetos from this point to the District line the “T" rail is in use. The tracks are laid in the center of High (32d) street to a point just north of the power house of the company, where it diverges to the cast side of the Tenley- town road, and at no point do the tracks approach ‘nearer than eight feet from the center of the improved roadway, as pro- vided by law of March 24. 1890. The tracks of the couipany continue on the east side of the Georgetown and Tenleytown road to a point just north of the intersection of the ‘River road’ with the Tenleytown rond, where they cross to the west side and continue to the end of their lin e tracks of the company are in good repair and the cars are clean and com- fortable and are run in sufticient number to ac- commodate the travel. the road is operated by electricity under the trolley system, with poles between tracks and a wire over the center of each. A third wire is attached to the poles between the power house of the company and the terminus of the line, where itis carried on the poles of the thesda electric road and supplies the motive power for that road. There are no gates at road crossings on the Georgetown and Tenleytown road, nor does their charter provide for gates. The cross- ings are kept in good repair. ‘The roadway of High (32d) street, from its construction previous to laying the tracks of the railway company, has not afforded the fa- cilities for traftic that is desirable between U or Road sireet and the point at which the tracks leave the center of the street and enter the east side of the Tenleytown road. That part of High street is in the list of streets asked to be appropriated for 1892.” ee ANACOSTIA. REV. DR. PECK’S TRANSFER. Rev. Dr. Francis Jesse Peck, jr.. for two years pastor of Campbell A. M.
