How to get the bay to market aud himself to the bell at the saine time was then theabsorbing question. Nothing daunted, he determined to “kill both birds with one stone,” and packing his dress suit and other “‘fixin’s” in a bundle he lashed the same to the long pole used to keep the hay on the wagon and early in the morning started on his journey. When @ few miles on his way the wagon broke down and left him standing along- side the road ina very disconsolate frame of mind. Determined to reach the city at all hazards another wagon was procured, the load of hay, dress suitand sll were transferred, and he again started on his journey, reaching the city without any other mis- ‘ > hap.
