Their Association Holds = Well-Attended Meeting at Baum’s Hall. MORE INTEREST THAN USUAL MANIFESTED—RE- VISRD LIST OF THE COMMITTEES PRESENTED BY PRESIDENT ABBSON—SOME DEFINITE INFOR- MATION ASKED FROM THE COMMISSIONERS. From the attendance at the regular monthly meeting of the East Washington Citizens Asso- ciation last night, which was greatly in excess of the attendance at previous meetings, it would seem that greater interest is being taken in East Washington affairs by the association. ‘The meeting was held in Baum’'s Hall, with the WHAT MRE. POWDERLY SAYS. His Contribution to the Controversy Over the Burean of Engraving and Printing. General Master Workman Powderly of the Knights of Labor, who is ‘now in Philadelphia, has prepared the following statement relative to the controversy over the re-emj t of the platé printers dropped from the rolls of the burean of engraving aud printing: THE STATEMENT. We have studiously refrained from saying or doing anything which would even in the slight- est degree embarrass the Secretary of the Treasury or the administration. Many of the reports which went broadcast from Columbus while we were there were not only not inspired by us, but were extremely annoying. Up to this moment Ihave not said a word publicly, but I feel that the statements oharged to the Secretary of the Treasury merit some reeogni- tion and denial, sinee they are entirely and un- qualifiedly false. He has stated, no it is alleged, and he bas not that the plate printers’ trouble was not the subject of disenssion at the meeting held at Mansfield between Senator Sherman, 4 STATEMENT BY BARDSLEY. paar Why the Philadelphia “Ledger” Refused to | Prigt the Document.
