Mr. Clark also testified that Prof. Gregory told him at the time be asked for the loan that he had.in company with Superintendent Powell and Supervising Princi- pal Keene, been looking at school sites, one at Brookland and another at Mt. Pleasant, and left upon witness the impression that the “help” he would receive the loan would be the principalship of either of those new buildings when erect further stated that upon consulting his uncle, other friends he was ad- vised not to loan the moncy, as it was hardly the proper thing for him to do, as it might in some way involve or embarrass him, and he de- clined to loan the money to Prof. Gregory. Prof. Hugh M. Brown, instractor in physics in the High School for the seventh and eighth divisions, testified and put in evidence a letter from Prof. Gregory, marked “private,” asking the loan of $200, which he obtained through orsement and loaned to Prof. Gregory.
