Yesterday afternoon in the Police Court, af- ter Taz Sran’s report closed in the case of Drs. Whitney and Dickerson, charged with false pretenses, Cul. Cook continued his argu- ment for nearly an hour. He devoted some time in speaking of the manner in which the arrest was made and how the office was invaded and the medicines taken. Then he paid some attention to the advertisements, reading “The Doctors Are Here.” “‘Andjthey are here now,” added Mr. Clagett. “Yes,” retorted Col. Cook, “but they will son be back in their office.” At the conclusion of Col. Cook's remarks Mr. Maddox opened his argument. He directed most of his attention to Detective Raff and characterized his conduct as outrageous. “Le- fore this prosecution,” he said, “I had some rexpect for the detective, but hereafter when I meet him on the street I will approach him with hat in hand and bended knee. The other man also xaid he had been sent by Col. Cook, and they were required to wait until the case had been disposed of. Counsel then made a motion for the return of the property, medicine, &c., taken from the doctors’ office. Mr. Clagett said he objected for the reason that he thought the public health and safety demanded that these things be held. During the discussion counsel spoke of patients who were in court in need of medicine, and one man, he said, wanted « prescription Le “Who sent him here?” inquired Mr. Clagett, but there was no response to the question. ‘The court directed the return of a portion of the property and permitted the government to Togain what was necessary as evidence.
