ESIDENT THANKED For Setting Apart a Frosh Reserve to Pre- serve the Big Trees. President Harrison and Secretary Noble have been thanked for doing something of which the country generally Rnows nothing. At the last meeting of the a and Crockett Club, which was presided over by the Hon. Theodore Rooserelt, the society by # resolution thanked the president and the secretary for having set apart asa for- eet reserve, the large tract situated in Wyoming at the headwaters of the Yellowstone and Snake having set the Sequoia Park for the preservation of the. reat trees of the Pacific slope. The society was of opinion that those actions were the most important tape taken in recent years for the preserva- tion of forests. ‘The reservations referred to will save the immense forests which were already threat- ened with destruction and the same salvation will extend to the rivers named. Remove the forests | and the, great Bhosh, rs by many regar as equal cy would vanish and the Yallow- stone river would at times be » stream which might be lost like some stray cow. The national game preserves needed this increased area. AMUSEMENTS. summer opera season opens at Albangh's next week. k Gas” is billed to appear at Harris’ ape a with « lot of fun. Interesting Things Seen and Heard at the Microscopical Society's Soiree. Queer things and odd things, and dead things and squirming things, and pretty things and ugly things, and all sorts of things, in short, were shown to the wondering gaze of 500 peo- ple last night in one of the corridors of the High School under the influence of high-pow- ered microscopes aided by the light of two or three dozen oil lamps. It was the annual ex- hibit of the Microscopical Society of this city, which held its seventh yearly soiree in the building. According to custom the suniversary | paids was begun by an address to the audience, as- sembled in the lecture ball of the school, by the president of the society, Dr. Thos. Taylor, who was introduced by the vice president, Dr. C. H. Stowell, in a few neat words of praise for the ad- vanced work done by this eminent microscopist.
