MOURNING GOODS A SPECIALTY. W. M. SHUSTER & SONS. INTERSTATE COMMERCE COMMISSION. Discrimination Against @ Georgia Town in Railroad Transportation. ‘The interstate commerce commission today, inan opinion by Commissioner Veazey, decided the case of Hamilton & Brown of Kramer, G: against the Chattanooga, Rome and Columbus Kailroad Company, the Louisville and Nashville Railroad Company and the Nashville, Chatta- nooga and St. Louis Railway Company, in favor of complainarts. The points decided are briefly as follows: 1. ‘The rates on freight from interstate points to Kramer, Ga., via the Chattanooga, Rome and Columbus railroad are made by taking the through rate to recognized “basing points” and adding thereto that local rate which will give the lowest combination. This method of determining a rate is criticised, and as applied to such trattic to Krame discrimination against . 2. All the carriers participating in the traffic the rates for which were questioned in this pro- eveding were not made parties, and the case, while showing that the through rates were dis. criminatory and unjust, failed to disclose sufti- cient facts upon which’ an accurate deci could be based, and, accordingly, it was held that the parties to the proceeding’ be required to adjust their respective tariffs so as te avoid discrimination against Kramer, and that the carriers who were not parties be summoned to uppear and show cause why like order be not insted as to the business in which they partici- te, unless their tariffs are voluntarily ad- Justed so as to avoid the discrimination com- plained of. —_—__e.___. The marriage of Miss Henrietta Dodson, daughter of Mrs. Rachel Dodson, to Mr. Cecil Morgan, now of Atlanta, Ga., son of the late Dr. Carroll Morgan of this city, took place last night at the residence of the bride in George- town. ‘Those present to witness the happy event were limited to the large family circles on both sides. Rev. Father Brady, 8.J., performed the ceremony. “The bride entered the parlor, es- corted by her uncle, Mr. R. J. Dodson. ‘Her only attendant was little Miss Potts, who wore apretty white dress and ribbons. The bride's gown was of elegant whXe silk, trimmed with lace, festooned with orange blossoms. After the ceremony a few of the intimate friends of these two old Washington families came in to offer their congratalations before Mr. and Mra, Morgan started on their short bridal trip north. ‘The parlor was handsomely decora with Easter lilies and palms and the bay win- dow where the couple stood to be married formed a bower, with a wedding bell suspended in the center. ‘Mr. and Mrs. B. I don't think the silver question will be one of the leading questions in the campaign next year I think the next Congress will dispose of” the matter. There is such a general demand for legulation favorable to silver that it cannot be disregarded. No, I do not think it will play much of part in the next campaign.” “What about the Farmers’ Alliance?” “Well, it will not amount to much in the ities of the future, because its schemes are impracticable and because it is manipulated by demagogues. Ihave always been in favor of the farmers having more ‘organization themselves for their own benefit. Iam a farmer myself and naturally sympathize with the farmers. I want to see them prosper and am ‘or of any organization among them that will effect this result. Ido not think that anything in this line can be accomplished by the Farmers’ Alliance. On the contrary, I think that it will work great terest of the farmers. The legislative relief they seek is class legislation of the simplest ind, and that sort of legislation is always ob- jectionsble on general principles and at vari- ance with our theories of government.” “What influence would such legislation as the Farmers’ Alliance demand have upon our system of government?” If it were possible to conceive of any such legislation as the subtreasury, the bonded rare house and other schemes it would inevi- bly lead us into endless confusion and ulti- mate bankruptcy. There could not possibly be any other result from it. But it does not m probable to me that any such legislation is at all possible.” “General, how do you account for the fact that the south, which has always been opposed to class legislation and pat in govern- ment, has gone mad over the Farmers’ Alliance schemes?” “I cannot explain the matter,” Senator Hampton’ replied. “The farmers ‘have had a hard time of it during the past few years.
