Henderson, as at- torney for the mortgagees, sold all that valu. able property in this county known as the Seneca sand stone quarries at public auction to Mr. George Mann of Baltimore city for $30,900. This property consists of about 500 acres of land, four dwelling houses and a number of tenant houses, a large stone mill ond all the necessary machinery for sawing the stone into blocks of different shapes and sizes. ‘The property is situated immediately on the line of the Chesapeake and Obio canal, and as soon as necossary means of traveportation can be sccured will be operated to its full capacity. | On Setarday H. On Friday night last the large dry goods and grocery store of Frost Brothers at this place was entered by burglars, who gained admission by cutting out the lock of the rear door and removing & heavy bar which secured the same. It is thought the thieves were frightened away before accomplishing their purpose, as the only evidence of their being in the store was that one of the cash drawers was wrenched from its place behind the counter. No goods are missing. The affair wae kept very quiet until today, in the hope ot securing some clue to the thieves. Mr. Franklin C. Betta and Miss Adele E. At a | meeting of the council held tonight Mr. | Thomas, the agent of the company, was present | and, after stating that the company declined to ‘accede to the proposed contract, offered to enter into another, whereby the corporation should pay #40 per light on the streets instead | of $25, and that wooden instead of iron posis should be used. We believe if these snits were dropped and the business of realiza- tion on the estate were properly taken up we might get 25 per cent on the dollar. Lord Salisbury has warned the British South Africa Cagupany that its occupation of Massi- | sharp scrimmage ensued. Early Morning Indications of Yesterday's ‘Chotee tn Mitkenuy. A dispatch from Kilkenny to the London Daily News early this morning said that there is not the lightest doubt that Sir John Pope Hennessy is elected by « majority of at least 500. It.is stated that out of 5,700 persons entitled to vote at yesterday's election 4,500 cast their ballots. Those who abstained from voting are said to have been mostly unionists. Kilkenny was intensely excited last night, butno dis- order occurred. The streets were fall of people eagerly discussing the day's election. THE NORTH KILKENNY VOTE. The north division of Kilkenny county, in which the great struggle between the Parnell- ites and McCarthyites has been taking place, has a population of about 41,000 and a regis- tered electorate of 5,705. At the clection of 1885, the first held after the division of the county, the late Mr. E. P. M. Marum, the Par- nellité ' candidate, received 4,084 votes to 174 cast for Mr. now Lord Bellew, the tory candi- date. ‘The sentiment of the constituency being thus almost unanimously for home rule, Mr. Marum was returned at the general election of 1886 withont opposition. The present vacancy was caused by Mr. Marum's death, which oc- curred on September 21 of this year. The division is divided into eight districts. Castle Comer, where the lime was thrown into Parnell's eyes, is the most populous, having a registered electorate of 1.301. The McCarthy- ites expected to gnin the election by th strength in this district, in which they concede Mr. Scully, the Parnellite candidate, lees than 100 votes. The Gridiron Club. ‘T. C.
