Two days ago Joseph Wilkerson, a young colored man, was before Judge Miller on sus- picion of being connected with the theft of a coat and vest from a bartender at Flynn's saloon, but the proof failed to connect him with the theft. There was proof, however, that he had been arrested on numerous occasions for theft, and on account of his mode of living Judge Miller sentenced him to the workhouse for sixty days as a vagrant. When Wilkerson was arrested his poor old mother was so over- ceme that she became sick, and when sh Jearned that he was suspected of theft she dropped dead from heart discase.
