William Henderson. a young colored man, who came here from Kichmend about a month ago to work in a barber shop on 9th street, attended a gathering at the Grand Army Hall last night, and then, with another young man, he went home with a young woman who lived not far from 17th and Q streets, It was after 1 o'clock in the morning when they reached the neighborhood of the lady’s house. The night was a disagreeable one and the man hailed a cabman, who agreed to take them to No. 407 Washington street for @1. They got into the vehicle, and after leaving their female friend at her house they started lor Washington street. When the cab reached 7th street and Massachusetts avenue Hender- son. the driver thought, was trying to jump out of the cab to run off without’ paying his fare, and so he stopped the vehicle and anded his money, Henderson, who had hired the vehicle, only had 30 cents, and therefore he could not settle the bill. With a whisky bottle he attempted to assault the driver, and the latter blew a whistle for the police. Officera Riley and Roberts re- sponded, and arrested the nicely dressed young man from Richmond, who was placed in a prison cell, where he remained until this morn- ing. He was then taken to the Police Court, where two empty whisky bottles were offered in evidence. They were found im the cab after Henderson was arrested. He was required to pay his fare or work house and on a charge of disor Uke to the duct he was fined $5 or fifteen days. lerly con- setae otis A Verdict of Guilty. Tn the Criminal Court in the case of Leno B. Curtis, alias Nathaniel Sykes, charged with the larceny of a bicycle, the jury yesterday after- noon found a verdict of guilty. Gen. Carring- ton gave notice of a motion for a new trial. A Venezuelan Claim. B. P. Snyder, trustee, has, by R. Ross Perry, filed a bill of interpleader against C. D. Hol- lins, administrator, et al. The bill states that the firm of Hollins & McBlair of Baltimore had aclaim against the government of Venezuela, and in 1827executed a deed of trust for the benefit of their creditors; and that the United States and Venezuelan claim commission issued a certificate allowing 210,993.40; and he asks that the claimants may interpfead as to their respective rights. —— Will Be Buried at Arlington, Mr. Wm. Domer, and the Emmet Guards, commanded by Licut’ Walsh, engaged in a competitive drill last night at the Marion Rifles’ fair, now in progress at the Wasffington Light Infantry Armory. The prize wasa fine silver and gold vase and it will in future decorate the head- quarters of the Feucibles, It was awarded them by the judges, Capt. Raymond, Lieut. Williams and Maj. O'Brien. The trophy was presented to Capt. Domer by Maj. Brackett of the second battalion. The Fencibles’ squad was composed of Messrs. Koman, Kondrup, Gavin, Domer, Brackett, Sessford, R. C. Rabe Scott, a colored man, who earns more than #2 a day working in Isaac Childs’ brick yards, was before Judge Miller today charged with stealing a bushel of coal from his em- ployer's yard, Scott was found by Officer Stewart with the coal in his possession and he claimed that Mr. Childs allowed him to take it, in attempting to explain the matter to Judge Miller the prisoner said that he only had some nders in his bag, “I dida’t call it stealing,” cott ose you buy a ton of coal,” said the { somebody takes itaway.
