More Brokers on the Floor Than Havo Been for Years. New Yorx, Nov, 11.—There was a larger at- tendance of brokers on the floor of the ex- change this morning than thero has been for years, Every stock on the list had a crowd of brokers trying to trade in it, and when the market opened the scene was ono of confusion | and excitement. The cables reported an | in | advance of to 3 per cent trade, which being received before the opening. caused the brokers to take the buiiside, and a disposition to buy was shown all around. largest crowd was in St. Paul, which first offered at 48 and then pnt above yesterday's close, Heavy and unexpected selling by London, however, drove the price down to 454. THE GENERAL LIST followed and for « few momeuts the weakness of yesterday was equaled, but heavy buying orders soon began to come in and on an active business the upward movement was resumed, Sugar opened up 2'; per cent on the appoint- meut of H. The early London prices this morning were all materially higher than our figures of last evening, and this market followed with ad- vances of from 1 to 23¢ per cent,St. Paul, sugar and Louisville and Nashville showing the greatest gains. There was some hesitation for a short time, when a perfect flood of stocks wero poured out upon the market and prices wero quickly going downward at a most rapid rate. ‘the Villardstocksseemed to bear the brunt of the attack, and North American especially was subject to a severe twist, and from 27%; at the opening it dropped suddenly to 2127. “North- ern Pacific preterred followed with a loss of 3 per cent, Richmond and West Point pre- ferred and Illinois Central each 2%, Chicago gas 214, Rock Island 2%, St. Paul, Lacka. wanna and Western Union cach 2 per cent and the rest of the list from 1 to 2 per ceat gen- erally. ACTED AS A STIMULANT. The appointment of the receivers for the sugar trust acted asa stimulant to that stock, and it was advanced from 55 to 57 in the face of the weakness in the regular list, and was mnintained at about 56 for the remainder of the hour. “The low. prices brought in more buying. however, and the force that opened the market up begun again to show its influence, and a smart rally took place. stock on the list was will hear the cases of the Chattanooga board | Union Pacific, which failed to go below the of trade and of Hamilton and Brown at Chat- tanooga, Tenn., tomorrow and next day.
