McCullough sfreet is the name given a sec- tion of the alley running inthe rear of the houses on the east side of New Jersey avenue between E and F streets. There is a long row of «mall houses on this so-called street which are inhabited by colored persons, Among the females in the alley there exists what is known | 8# the Nellie Bly Club. The young men in that | vicinity are also permitted to engage in the | festivities of the club, Its meetings aro hold | anywhere about the street or alley and inside a house or onacorner. The objects of the club are “mutual improvement” and the “promotion of social intercourse.” Whethor they gave any “parlor socials” is not known, but it is known | that they “rush the growler” and the girls “shoot crap.” There was a meeting of the club on the cor- ner last night There were present sixteen males and about half that number of females. When Policeman Jim Fenton came along he heard the giris with Nellie Bly caps cursing and swearing and they were making so much noise thathe made @ raid on them. Three girls, Catherine Mills, Jane Poindexter and Laura Harris, were arrested, and this morning they were tricd in the Police Court for disorderly conduct. Catherine and Jane plead guilty and were fined $5 each. Lawyer Moss plead Laura’s case for her, and upon showing that although she wore a Nellie bay be ip she was only a visitor at the meeting it night the court suspended THEY WILL CONSOLIDATE, Two Large Colored Secret Organiza- tions to Join Their Forces. Two of tho largest and most powerful colored | Secret organizations of the country are plan- ning to join thoir forces. They are the right worthy national grand council and the right worthy grand lodge of the Independent national Order of Good Samaritans. They held a meet- ing yesterday at Cadets Armory on O street, at which articles of agreement which had been previously adopted by the respective grand bodies were read and referred to a business {committee of ten. The meeting was called to order by District Grand Chief Uharles H. Mar- shall, and Dr. D. P. Seaton, past right worthy national grand chief of the grand council, was elected chairman, with Rev. Daniel Jones, na- tional grand sire of the grand lodge, vice presi- dent; James Burgess, secretary, and Cornelia S. Snyder of Bultimore, Md., assistant secre- tary. They Ascortain That All His Liabilities . Can be Fully Met. Yesterday afternoon the creditors of E. L. Dent's iron works held a meeting at the office of the works, The assignees, Wm. A. Gordon and Jas, H. Taylor, presented their statement, which showed that Mr. Dent's liabilities amount to $232,187.15, while his assets, mostly in the form of real estate, foot up to at least $445,014.47. They also explained their plans of continuing the business and carrying out the contracts for which Mr. Dent is responsi- ble until some arrangements are made for the sale of the works or their operation by a stock company to be formed. As their plans con- template the payment in full of every cent of the indebtedness and only ask for a short time in which to make a settlement they were willingly agreed to, SHE SHOT HER HUSBAND Because He Tried to Remove the Fur- niture From Her House. Parker, the defendant was surrendered by his surety, Mr. W. W. Kirby. He was released ov giving anew bond with W. H. Lee surety in $500, Samuel Ryder, charged with having knowl- edge of a child under sixteen years of age, has been committed to jail, his surety after the forfeiture of recognizance had been stricken out surrendering him, In the case of Jobn F. Beute for indecent exposure a nolle pros has been entered, Wm. Walker, charged with violating the policy law, plead not guilty, _ Beating the Slot. “Watch that boy,” said a man standing near small boy with a nickel fastened to a strong silk thread a yard long, more or less. John H. O’Brien, a printer, while under the influence of liquor, entered Karsch’s saloon on Pennsylvania avenue last night and called for adrink, The bartender refused to give him hing to drink on account of his condition, wherenpon O’Brien became loud and abusive and insulted some old soldiers, customers of the saloon. O’Brien did not like the treat- ment he had received in being refused or ‘turned down,” and he proceeded to break up the fixtures of the establisiment, A messeu- ger was sent for an ofticer and Policeman way responded, O'Brien was thereupon jocked up, but he was afterward released on $5 col- lateral. Sosa snc An Oyster Schooner Sunk. The oyster schooner Model, with a load of 600 bushels of oysters on board, struck on a snag in the river betweon Glymont and Crano Point a few days ago and now lies at the bot- tom. some nineteen fect below the surface of the flowing tide. The crew, which consisted of three men, made their escape, though the boat ‘sank almost instantly. The schooner was owned by Capt. Win. C. Nolon of this city and com- manded by Capt, David Jenkins, The loss is estimated at nearly $3,000. Fined for Assaulting His Father. Dan Long, a South Washington young man who has spent almost as much time in prison as he has outside since he celebrated his twenty-first bi y, Was arraigned before Judge Miller this morning charged with as- saulting Dennis Long, his father. At the close of their concert here last spring they went to the Pan-American reception at the Arlington Hotel, and their singing was acknowledged to be the feature of the evening's entertainment. After 1 o'clock in the morning the party filed into the Arno and were ushered into the private parlor of the Congressman. Soon sweet strains filled not only the parlor but the adjacent corridors, the doors having been left open. ‘There was a general unlocking of doors and putting forth of heads, and a sigh of regret whon the singing was over.
