FORCED TO MURDER. A Strange Story of Recent aud Tragedy in France. mance Astory of romance aud tragedy, such a one as is found in Preuch novels and with such in- cidents as are possible only in Franco, comes from Paris, Some time egoa handsone Mus- sian boy of nineteen. named Veter Viadimiro‘f, was traveling in Feanee. In his wanderings he met a rem: y, Mme. Carmine Freycinet, who, with her two young children, were also traveling for pleasure. As soon as they became acquainted ho de- voted himself to her and sought her company atall times, She, too, was very much struck with him and willingly accepted his homage. He sought permission of his parcuts for their marriage, but was refused, Viadimiroff became desperate; he swore he would get the permis- sion of his parents or dic. He wrote to them that he would committ suicide if they did not relent, and gave them a certain day on which to decide his fate. Of course his letter had the desired effect, It brought an immediate an- swer from his terror-stricken mother m which she implored him not to dream of so desperate an act, and not only gave the desired permis sion, but inclosed a check for n round little sum for the purchase of little prescuts for his inamorata, With this money they to Paris and gave a serics of dinners to their friends and all seemed serene. But during dinner on Sat- day Viatimiroff seemed strangely excited; he was restless and tulked almost wildly. Then showed the woman a revolver he had bought and asked her if she did not think it pretty. She begged him to put it away, and eventually he gave it to her. When the meal Was over they went to their room. In about a quarter of an hour a pistol shot rang out. ‘Lhe servants found Viadimiroff standing in the doorway with the revolver in his hand. thre: Ile lat the servant's fect, exclaim- » killed my mistress! run for a con- stable; arrest me.” ‘The revol as immediately put ont of hi reach aud Le was kept under strict watch till the gendarme arrived and he was duly urrested, Then he had become calmer in his manner, aud expreesed great regret for his crime; but he added, as his eyes flashed again: “1 could not resist it. A sudden impulse came over me, and a yoice seemed to whisper in my ear, ° her. killher.” 1 fought against it. Then it shouted: ‘Kill her! Kill her now, now; take the revolver from her and do it.’ I couldn't help myself. I madu her give me the weapon, ‘Then I said: .‘Carmine, 1 must kill you: ven says so. Du I fired and she fell. ¥ poor Carmine! My beautiful beloved is ad and I have kiiled her.” On entering the room in which the deed was done Madam Freyeinct was found lying on the floor, with a wound in her breast. ‘The bullet had undoubtedly gone through her. — sae A STRANGE COINCIDE Simultaneous Appe. Ripper and CE. nce of Jack the “De. Jekyll”? Recent cable dispatches from London stated that Jack the Ripper had declared that he was about to perpetrate anew his outrageous murders. The item discloees an extraordinary fatality and coincidence with the production of the play “Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.” ‘The play was first produced by Mr. Mansticld about the time that the Whitechapel murderer inauga- rated his fiendish work. Afterward, during Mr. Mansfield’s rest, the slaughter was diseon- tinned. Upon Mr. Mansfield’s reopening with the play in London the murders were frequent and all London was in a state of terror, which greatly militated against the success of tho at the Lyceum.
