The collector of customs at Port Townsend, Wash., reports to the Treasury Department, under thé date of September 29, that Inspector Jackling on September 24 captured a sloop with twenty Chinamen aboard bound from British Columbia toa landing in that state. ‘The two men in charge of the vessel ran her ashore near Port Haddock and escaped. The shinamen were captured and imprisoned at MeNeuls Island awaiting extradition, Assistant Secretary Spaulding of the Treasury Depart- ment has directed the marshal at Port Town- send, Wash., to turn over to. the collector of customs at Port Townsend all the Chinamen now in his custody who have been convicted of entering the United States in violation of the Chinese exclusion act. Organizing the Juries, In the Criminal Court before Chief Justice Bingham today the grand jurors were called to serve during the October term. The following were excused: E. Dausch, Chas.
