The Commissioners have in board session made the following changes in the building regulations and issued an order that the same be incorporated at once. The inspector of buildings recommended these changes several weeks ago: Sec. 1. The words “first floor,” in the defini- tion of bay windows, are stricken out. Sec. 7, par. 1, Projecting steps are hereby limited on unparked streets to 7 feet by strik- ing out the word “nine” in line 6 and inserting “seven” in lien thereof, Sec. 7. The following is substituted for the second paragraph, limiting the projections from the building line on streets less than 30 feet in width, viz: ‘On streets less than 80 feet in width the projections shall not exceed 4 feet; but no projection or other work except steps exterior to the building line may be constructed on streets Jess than 70 feet in width, except by special permit and under such re- strictions aa the Commissioners may impose. No fireplace or chimney shall be constructed in any projection outside of the building line unless the shaft be returned to the building line and be carried upon iron beams. Sec. 7. The following @ substituted for the third paragraph limiting the size of bay win- dows and tower projections, vi > window and tower projections shall not exceed fourteen (14) feet in width, unless ap- proved by the Commissioners; but ‘with such approval such window and tower projections may be constructed aggregating not more than 50 per centum of the frontage of a principal or entrance front, and 40 per centum of a side front, ex- clusive of tower projections. On buildings twenty (20) fect and less in width the building line front must be preserved by not less than three fect, six inches; on buildings fifteen (15) feet and less m width, by not less than two feet six inches; on buildings over 20 and under 35 feet front by not less than 4 feet 10 inches, spaced as approved by the in- spector of buildings. But one projection will be allowed on a building 36 feet or Jess in width.” Sec. 12. The week just closed can be termed one of “electric storms” in this locality, and some very destructive work is reported. The dwelling house of Mr. Thomas Stockslager, on his farm near Smithsburg, was struck by lightning, fired and entirely consumed, entailing a loss of #2,000. The large barn of Mr. C. H. Coblents, on the road from Boonsboro’, this county, to Middletown, met the same fate. One hundred and fifty loads of wheat, a quantity of corn, hay, harness, &c., were consumed with the barn, entailing a loss of over $5,000. Mr. Peter L, Eshelm. residing near Greencastle, was also among the unfortunates. his barn meeting the same fate, at which time thirty-eight tons of hay and farming implements generally were consnmed. Gordon of Georgia, in which the governor states that he Is in entire accord with the spirit, tone and practical sug- gestions of the Atlanta Constitution as to the ase of the boycott as a means,of self preserva- tion and commercial independence “‘if the use- lees and infamous force bill becomes a law.” Moreo: the governor says, that spirit will possess and control approximately every white man, woman and child in the southern states. A Church Fight Because Some Wish to Join the American Connection. There is a split in the British Methodist Epis- copal Church congregation of Toronto, owing to a disposition of a section of the congrega- tion to place the church in connection with the African Methodist Episcopal Church, which is American. Pastor Bane of Philadelphia went there with power from Bishop Tanner of that city to take the congregation over. The report published by the Fredericksburg Lance of the meeting to elect delegates to the democratic convention to nominate a candidate for Congress in the eighth district may lead to trouble between Capt. Daniel M. Lee and W. 8. White, attorney for the commonwealth. Capt. Lee, who isa nephew of Gen. Robert E. Lee, presided at the meeting. Gen. W. H. F. Lee is a candidate for the nomination. The ac- count of the meeting published in the Lance was not complimentary to the chairman or the candidate and Capt. Lee made a demand on Editor Woltz for the name of the writer or per- son responsible for the statements it contained. Col, Woltz, with the gentleman’s consent, has anounced that Attorney White was the au- thor of the article. Just what Capt.
