Flow the Hartfords Were Again Cared For—Other Games. The assignment of the ball club did not seem to make any difference with the playing of the Senators yesterday. as they defeated the Hart- ford team by the score of 10 to 9 by hitting the ball hard and often. It was a game for blood from start to finisa, every inch of ground being hotly contested. Until the last man was out in the ninth inning there was no certainty as to whose flagstaff the bird of victory would perch on, and the spectators, about half number, were left at a high state of excitement, Ma- loney reappeared in the box for the home team and for two innings did well, but in the third the men from Hartford jumped upon his delivery and ponnded out five runs, taking the } lead, Underwood was «substituted and checked the run-getting propensities of the visitors suf- ficiently to allow the home club to crawl ahead and finally take the game. The battery for Hart- ford was Staib aud Hodgman, while Nicholas was Washington's catcher, The game began as though Washington were going to repeat the dose of Monday, one run eing made in each of the first three innings. In the first Bader hit for a base, stole second and scored on a wild pitch. In'the next Jor- dan repeated the process by hitting safely, stealing and scoring ona single by Maloney. Whistler hit the ball over the left fence in the third for a home run. ‘The third was a damp- ener for the spirits of the crowd. Doyle made first on a slow hit to Hill and Staib was given four balls. Then Annis and Forster each hit for a base and O'Connell and Thiesen for three bags each. Gleason's fumble let Thiesen in, With a lead of two runs the Hartfordites made another in the fourth on a three-base drive by Doyle and a single by Straib. ‘Then the: assigned Senators began to crawl up hill, In the fifth the score was brought very near a tie by two runs bein; scored, Whistler reached first on balis an Bird hit for two bases, scoring Whistler. “A wild pitch; a fumble by Forster and an error by O'Connell on Wentz's drive let Bird in. The sixth saw the Statesmen forge ahead in fine style by making three runs. Underwood hit outadouble. Gleason and Whistler a single apiece, aud Bird brought in everybody by 9 three-base hit to the club house. ‘Then in the seventh each made 2. For Washington Wentz andJordan each hit safely fora base, and} Bader scored them with a two-bagger. For Hartford # base on balls andafumble put two men on bases, one of whom scored on Walsh's sacrifice to Bader, and the other one, while Wentz menaced Walsh with the ball under the impression that he was not out. This left Hartford two runs behind and it looked dubious in the ninth, when Forster came in on a base on balls, a hit by Walsn and sacrifice by Hodgman, ‘the side was finally put out with two men on the bases. Washing- ton-made:16 nits and 4 errors and Hartford 11 hits and 2 errors. OTHER GAMES. New Haven broke Baltimore's record of straight Sielories by defeating the Orioles in a hot game that lasted twelve innings, the score being 7to6. German, Baker and Townsend and Horner and Hofford were the batteries. It was a see-saw from the start, first one side taking the lead and then the other. In the eleventh each team scored one, and in the | twelfth New Haven tallied the winning run on | an error by Werrick. Bultimore made 11 hits and 5 errors and New Haven 10 hits and 3 errors. Wilmington tied Hartford for seventh place by defeating Jersey City again at Atlantic City, 1ito3. The batteries were Anderson and Cor- coran and Fitzgerald and Murphy. Worcester today and tomorrow. Everybody hit the ball but Hill, Whistler has made nine home run hits this year and leads the country. With good weather the two games on the | Fourth with Baltimore ought to draw nearly | 10,000 people. ‘The assigned Senators have made 49 hits in the last three games. There is no use trying to beat the thirteen combination, Washington won thirteen straight ames and then went to pieces, and here is Satmere losing the fourteenth game also, The men ure playing good ball, even if they are not getting their pay, and it is to be hoped | that the people will turn out to see them in their great act of climbing toward first place. | Barnie says he bas confidence that the team | here will be continued by other capitalists and | that he has no fears of a ANC. The Whistlers claim the amateur champion- ship of ‘the northwest, having defeated the Corcoran Reds, Alexandrias, All Americas and the Olympics during the past two weeks. THE SOUTH CAROLINA CONTEST. Miller (republican) against Wm. Elliot (democrat), from the seventh district of South ‘arolina, ‘The report is voluminous and is chietly devoted to a review of the testimony in the case. In conclusion, it states that while the minority do not agree with the findings of the majority, but couceding, for the purpose of argument, that they are correct in all re- Spocts excepting as to the 1,000 votes alleged to have been found in the wrong box and given to Miller (whom the majority contend was elected), it still remains that the contestee peine) would be entitled toa majority of INDUSTRIAL STATISTICS.
