But Not s Single Shot Was Fired to Start the Slaughter. Coremara, $.C., Jaly 2—At no meeting of the present campaign has such bad blood been displayed as yesterday at Winusborough, the home of Gen. Bratton, one of the candidates. Gen. Bratton was accorded a respectful silence from the crowd who listened to him. Gen. Earle’s speech was interrupted by yells and cries of “Sit down!” and “Let the man speak!” “You can't change us; we are going to put Till- man in!” ‘Run him out, boys!’ When Cupt. ‘Tuliman arose it was fully five minutes before he could speak, 80 great was the applaure on one side and the hissing on the other. Aftor speaking «short while he said something that again put the crowd to yelling, and all efforts to silence them were in vain. Some one told him to sit down. This produced the wildest excitement. A score of Tillman's followers rushed ou the stand and lifted Tillman from the seat into which he had dropped and car- ried him to the edge of the platform. They swore he should speak. At this point the at- tention of the audience was called to the fact that twenty of Mr. Tillman's supporters on the stand had their hands on their pistols. At this announcement there was the greatest con- fasion. The ladies fled from the meeting, and ap eye-witness reports a hundred pistols in sight at the same moment. A terrible riot was momentarily expected and a single shot or blow would have brought it on. ‘The ten- sion was very great until the end of the most heated meeting of the campaign. phate i lE WESTERN CROPS.
