To (he Editor of Tux Evenrne Stan. e cyclone of January 12, 1390, through por- tions of Kentucky and Missouri only proves the rule, as verified by the weather map. The north country had become well heated by a succession of north “lows.” Now a new “low” appears on the scene in the southwest and travels in a northeast direction toward the track of the north “low.” The destruction, which we term a tornadoor cyclone, takes place in the track of this new “low.” ‘he map for Saturday the 11th plainly indicated the in- tense condition. A life-long romance ended yesterday in the death of Mra, Fitzgeorge. the wife of his royal highness field marshal the duke of Cambridge, rst cousin of Queen Victoria and commander- in-chief of the British army. Mra, Fitzgeorge was originally Miss Fairbrother, an actress and dancer of stainless repute in a theater in Dub- lin. The duke first met her when be was quar- tered in the Irish capital, forty-five years ago. He was then a dashing young sabreur of twenty- five, She was a beauty of the pure Irish type, of black hair and gray eyes, of exqnisite figure and of perfect grace. It was acase of love at Hirst sight on both sides. She would not listen to avy but formal addresses, but she did con- sent tos private marriage and at once left the stage forever, It was hoped that the young Queen Victoria would have recoguzed the marriage, put she flatly refused. It was a mes- allance and that was the end of it. The Ger- man princely practice of morganatic oe was kept well before the queen's eyes by the prince consort and Mrs. Fitzgeorge was not re- ceived, When the duke returned from London his lovely wate was installed in a quiet house in Queen strect, Mayfair, near the great pile of Cambridge house. It ‘is one ot the tew ro- mances of the house of Guelph that the dake never sought any release from the marriage, which he could readily have done, and passed scores of young royal princely beauties by audclung with loyal tidelity to his Insh wife us steadily at seventy as when he wooed ber at twenty-five. Two sons were born of thix mar- riage and both have attained honorable dis- tnction in the army through the queen's favor, ‘The queen, indeed, had of late years privately visited Mrs, Fitzgeorge and had also bestowed important favors upon the two sons, Mra, | Fitzgeorge had been ill for «long time and was seventy-four when she died. No one would have thought, to look at the bluff rotund old | duke of late years, that he bad so much ro- mauce in him. ee Key West and Yellow Fever.
