The large draw- ing rooms were brilliantly lighted, the chande- liers were garlanded with festoons of smilax, and the corners of the rooms and the fire- places were transformed into fan-like clusters and pyramids of palms, among the green of which glowed the vivid crimson of the poin- setta’s leaves, The ball room was used as @ salon, with the rugs down and three crimson divans Cecupring the central portion of the floor, The large nurrors that stand op- posite each other reflected the brilliant scene ‘hts and festoous of smilax into a vista to which there was noend.
