The body of the young man who committed suicide on the river flats near the causeway of the Long bridge, as ®ublished in yesterday's Sra, was taken to the morgue, where it was kept for identification, Although the body was found early in the morning it was late in the evening before it was ascertained that the de- ceased was William J, Kee, son of Mr, Thomas Kee of the third auditor's office, who lives at 94 D street southwest, The wound in the young man’s temple, together with the revolver in his band, was almost conclusive evidence of suicide. 4 HIS MIND AFFECTED. The unfortunate young man lived with his pareuts at their home on D street. Wednesday evening he left home and did not return. It is thought that he wandered down toward the river and killed himself about midnight. He was only twenty years of age. and about a year ago he was sent to the insane asylum, where he remained till about four months since, when he was released and enlisted ip the marine corps; but about a month since, in consequence of mental condition, be was discharged. He was - good spirits Wedaesday night when he left ome. The coroner this morning gave a certificate of death by suicide and turned the body over to the father. The remains of the unfortunate young man will be buried in Alexandria. —._—_ ILLEGAL LIQUOR TRAFFIC. Dealers Who Think a Fine Paid Author- izes a Year’s Violation of the Law. In another month the license year will-begin for liquor dealers who sell either by wholesale or retail. The last board of Commissioners decided that no such license would be issued to the proprietor of a house of ill-fame and put their ruling in force by declining to grant a license of any sort to the keeper of any such house. Soon after the beginning of the license year the police of the first precinct made a tour through the “Division,” aad the result was that about forty-five of the women had to come up and pay $5 in addition to the regular license tax of $100 for violation of the liquor luw. That, they seemed to think, was collected in the place of the regular license tax and that they could keep on selling till the license year expired without being molested by the police, A NEW CRUSADE, They have been conducting their business during the year withou: interruption until this week, when Lieut. Amiss’ officers started out to again collect from each house where liquor is sold $105, Warrants have been issued for a number of the proprietors and others will be issued during the next few days, Thus far such prosecution have been contined to the houses in the “Division,” and those fined com- plain that similur “offenders” on Maryland uvenue have not been made to pay for selling liquor. Some of the women arrested have ex- pressed a determination to fight in the courts the charge now being made against them, Should the same amount of money collected from this source nearly a year ago be collected this time, it will foot up nearly $10,000. This morning collaterals in three cases were forfeited in the Police Court. ieee National Guard Dress Parade. At the request of several prominent Knights Templar the dress parade of the District na- tional guard bas been postponed from October 2to Wednesday, October 9. This willingness on the part of Gen. Ordway to assist in enter- taining the thousands of visit@rs at that time is appreciated by the conclave committee. I[f the soldier boys make the creditable record that is expected the excellence of the District national guard will become known all over the country. —_—- The Death Record.
