The Senatorial base ball club escaped s de- feat yesterday at the hands of the league In- fants by fsiling to reach Cleveland in time for the game. They left Pittsburg at 7:25 in the morning and should have arrived at their des- timation at 12:40, but « freight wreck on the road detained them and when they touched ‘town it was too dark to play. Accerding te the Tules Umpire Lynch gave the game to Cleve- land by a score of 9 to 0. on ascount of the nen- appearance of the Statesmen, subject to de- cision by the league directors. Correspondence of Tux Evasrxe S742 Maexnstown, Sept. 26, 1889. Asnusual, the Chesapeake and Ohio canal will form an important factor is the approach- ing fell election in this county and candidates are likely to find that there is “life in the old ditch yet.” Atthe democratic primaries and other meetings recently held in the districts bordering on the canal resolutions were passed declaring against the support of any candidate who failed to pledge his best efforts to procure its restoration as a waterway. For this reason every aspirant is a straight out canal man, not- withstanding repeated assertions that the “canal should be taken out of politics.” Ap- repos of this, however, it may be mentioned Annapolis between that the conference st Mosars. Matters in several of the churches of Hagers- town are not as serene and pleasant as should characterize bodies of that kind. The liturgi- esl form of worship has caused dissatisfaction in the two Lutheran churches—notably, Trinity Lutheran, presided over by Rev. Delk.'
