2 THE EVENING STAR: WASHINGTON; D. C., SOCIAL MATTERS. What is Going on Among Well-known People—Personal Mention. The marriage of Miss Anita McCormick to Mr. Emmons Blaine will take place at Richfield Springs to-morrow at noon the Brick Pres- byterian church. It is said that nearly three thousand invilstions have been sent out. The Rev. S. 8. V. Holmes, the pastor, will perform the ceremony, assisted by Rev. D. Herrick Johnson of Chicago. There will be no brides- maids, but Walker Blaine will be best man and there will be four ushers. A wedding breakfast will be served at the McCormick cottage, and to this only the family and intimate friends have been invited. The bride and groom have been at the Springs for some time. Others of the wedding party arrived at Ritchfield 8; << last evening, and registered at the house. Among them Secretary and Mrs. a the Misses Blaine, Walker and James G. Blaine Jr., Mrs. G. W. Ryerson, Chicago; Mr. and Mrs, ——— Bishop, New York; olonel and Mrs. Coppinger, U.S.A.; Mr. and Mrs. R. BR. Ely, Boston; John A. Ryerson, Chicago; Waiter Damrosch, New York, and others. Mra Me- Gormick and Cyrus og ot a eir cottage, Clayton je. Secre' will aa Tepper to the at the lodge this evening. The couple will go to Bar Harbor after the wedding, which will be a quiet affair, The bride's trousseau is said to be one of the most complete and gor- eous ever owned by an American girl. ‘iss McCormick is exceptionally fond of lace, and this she has spent thousands upon, so that every piece is covered with cascades of the most exquisite webs from all parts of Europe where lace is made. She has a fancy for white underclothes, too, and nearly every garment is of the snowiest mull or silk, the only color being from the narrow ribbons run through the laces, and in many instances the ribbons are white also. Her bridal garments are of white India silk, trimmed with the most beautiful Irish point, and this same point trims one of the few tinted sets in the trousseau, one of pale lemon color, which also includes a silk petticoat and satin corset. The bridal stockings are“of white silk, embroidered with silver thread, and there are other pairs of white stocking#embroidered with gold and different colors. This is a new fashion, introduced by Miss McCormick, who likes white stockings as well as white underclothes, and who sent direc- tions with her order to Paris that instead of sending stockings of a color to match each costume they should be white, embroidered with silks the shade of the dress, Her opera cloak for this winter is a heavy white silk, are at Blaine CARING FOR THE LITTLE ONES. The report says that while many of the most prominent ladies and gentlemen of the city give considerable atten- tion to the comfort of the children the asylum will have to depend for a while longer upon congressional appropriations. ‘This, they say, is unavoidable from the difficulty of securing id from individuals in the form of money dur- ing the probationary period of any charitable institution, The expenditures during the year amounted to $8,189.70. A PROPOSED SCHOOL ROOM. The report says further that it is proposed during the ensuing year to put in operation in the asylum a school room for the children of sufficient to require instruction, thereby obviating the e necessity of sending the children outside the building to school. A training school for nurses is also proposed, so that citi- zens desiring that character of service in their homes can draw from a reliable corps. For the maintenance of the asylum forthe one = an appropriation of $9,000 is asked, an for improvements $1,000. natal SAMPLES OF A BAD LOT.
