He is one of the lead- ing members of the Longwood club, Boston, and plays a good game of tennis, although he devotes most of his time to cricket. It was the intention of Mr. H. A. Many expect Mr. Davidson to get into the finals with the northern players for the first prize. IMPROMPTU SCRAPPING MATCH. | Street Encounter Between McMillan and Young—A Knock-down and Arrest. “Billy” McMillan and “Billy” Young, alleged pugilists, who have been fighting each other in the newspapers for some time, had an im- promptu mill about 2 o'clock Sunday morning on Pennsylvania avenue between 12th and 13th streets. It is alleged that both men had been drinking and that they met in a saloon and quarreled and then went out to the sidewalk to settle the difficulty. Policeman {Frayser, who was in the vicinity at the time, acted as referee and called time after McMillan had been knocked out in oneround, The first blow de- livered by Young landed on his antagonist’s jaw and McMillan went to the ground. The policeman then interfered and placed BOTH MEN UNDER ARREST. He took charge of Young while Special Officer Venneman took charge of McMillan. The pugilists attempted to get at each other while passing along the avenue, but they did not succeed until tlie corner of 12th street was reached. Young was inclined to & uietly with the officer, but McMillan wante. ght i out and in his efforts to do so he struck Officer Frayser. Then MeMillan and Young again clinched and in order to maintain the arrest and prevent damage being done the policeman took a hand in the scrimmage and knocked Me- Millan out. Another start was made for the station. The a went along quietly and made no irther attempt to slug each other until they reached the station. M'MILLAN’S THIRD ATTEMPT, MeMillan then made another break at Young, but the latter was prevented from “doing him up” again. Policeman Frayser, however, took a hand in the combat and again knocked Me- Millan out. McMillan, whose face looked as though he had gone through a regular ‘ “mill,” was placed behind the bars. Young was placed in an adjoining cell, but there was not a bruise or scratch on his face, Later they were re- leased on collateral. Today in the Police Court they were charged with affray, and McMillan was also charged with assaulting the officer. The cases were continued until Wednesday. McMillan will probably Swear out a warrant against the of- icer. —_—___ ATHLETES IN HARD LUCK. The Representatives of the Columbis Club in the Amateur Contests. The performance of the representatives of the Columbia athletic club in the contests of the Amateur Athletic Association of America at Travers island, N.Y.,on Saturday did not quite fulfill the expectations of the stay-at- homes, but, according to Mr. Howard Perry, the secretary of the club, who was present at the games, they acquitted themselves honora- bly. He says he never saw King run in such magnificent form and that, although he did not win, he proved that he is undoubtedly the SECOND BEST RUNNER IN THE COUNTRY, He considers Owen of Detroit, who beat King in the 2.20 race, the most wonderful sprinter he has ever seen, King will remuin over in New York to take part in the Manhattan club games which will take place next Saturday. TWO PECULIAR MISHAPS, Crist lost the bicycle race in which he was entered by a peculiar accident, At one of the turns there was a sudden shifting among some of the riders, forcing Crist to turn sudden! thus throwing his feet from the pedals. He could not recover them for some time and then his shoes were badly cut, Barber lost his race by a peculiar mishap, It was a two-mile contest, but Barber thoug! t it was for one mile, and he made his spurt ac- cordingly, forging clear ahead of the bunch, He did not recover himself until he had lost his wind. At the business meeting Saturday night Mr. Perry was unanimously re-elected a member of the dof managers and also treasurer of the association. Marriage Licenses.
