The German orphan a asylum, through Mr. Simon Wolf, chairman, has submitted to the Commissioners the annual report of the insti- tution for the year ending June 90, 1889. During the nine years of the existence of the asylum 189 orphan children have found a home within its walls. During the past year forty- two orphans (twenty-nine girls and thirteen boys), of which the youngest was two years of age and the oldest eighteen years of age, were taken care of, Of this num- ber twenty-eight attended the public school in Anacostia and one the high school in Washing- ton, The remainder received preparatory in- structions in the institute. The German or- phan asylum having had no established funds was from the ning, as at present, de- pendent on the Lil lity of the citizens, whose gifts it is maintained, and by wnik alone its object to furnish to dependent orphan children a home and educate them to be useful citizens can be obtained, FINANCIAL STATEMENT. The management of the asylum is very eco- nomical, the report says, the total cash ex- nses for the year gyre to $1,999.59, or Bi6e-68 per month. By donations of patrons a fund of $9,000 has eccumulated, which is in- vested, and only the interest is available. In consequence of the excellent location of the in- stitution the best of health has prevailed. At the last session of Congress en appropria- tion of 210,000 for a brick building was ob- tained on the condition that the asylum raise an equal amount. This has been done and the erection of a proper building will commence atonce, This amount, however, it is claimed, is inadequate and they earnestly recommend an appropriation of €20,000 so as to secure the erection of a proper building. The asylam is nonsectarian and open to all confessions and to = ——— who may be domiciled in Washing- Ove New Buriiprxe, 13th and F, not being quite finished, we have concluded to postpone our opening day to Monday, by serve the 23d, but having all our carpets and furniture in posi- tion upon the several floors, and having in- duced many to wuit, we take this method of in- forming them that we are ready to show our full line, especially carpets, on next Monday, September 16.
