Mrxneapowis, July 5.—Wednesday afternoon, at Hopkins, near this city, Carrie, the eighteen- year-old daughter of Hiram Frost, was burned to death. The young lady had just arrived home from Mayville, Wis., where she has been attending school, and bad gone up stairs to rest. Her mother, who was the only one in the house beside the girl, went to visit at a neigh- bor’s uear by, leaving a gasoline stove burning. She had been gone but a short time when smoke was seen issuing from the building, and it waa quickly destroyed. A search was made soon after and the young lady’s charred re- mains were found in the ruins. New Youx, July 5.—The London market did not respond to the depression here last Wed- nesday, and prices there this morning were materially higher than our closing figures of Wednesday. This market, however, only par- tially sympathized with the higher London prices and an irregular opening resulted, though most stocks were higher and the ad- vances extended to 34 per cent generally, while Jersey Central opened with a gain of 1 per cent at 111. On the other hand Delaware and Hudson showed the most marked decline at 146, being i y cent lower. The improvement did not New York sport $500 to $400 that Sullivan would win. Prrrsgura, Pa., July 5.—The executive board of the coke region, Knights of Labor miners, met at Everson, Pa., yesterday, and decided to make a demand on the operators for an in- crease in wages in the near future, A call was also sent out for a canvention of all organized and unorganized miners and mine laborers in the coke region, to be held at Everson on the 13th instant, ag: and a former trial resulted in a disagreeing jury. Burraxo, N. Y., July 5.—Lung Sing, a China- man who came here from Baltimore about two weeks ago. was found murdered this morning in his laundry, corner of Oak and Swan streets. J., July 5.—Frank Hoyt, pay- ing-teller of the First National Bank of Ho- boken, was arrested and locked up this morn- ing pee complaint of President 8, R. Sims upon the charge of embezzlement. The bank officers suspected Hoyt of wrong-doing and ex- amined his accounts yesterday. A shortage of at least $15,000 was found. Hoyt has been con- nected with the bank for fifteen years and bore an umblemished character, He is thirty-three years old and resided with his wife and family at Orange, N. J.
