It is altogether probable that this is near the mark, as the point in question is some distance from the county seat, and the mill could take place without rege “ware Gov. Lowry’s latest proclamation offering $1,000 reward for the arrest and delivery of Sullivan | and Kilrain on Mississippi soil is laughed at by | the backers of the two principals, who say that | if he knew as much as they do he could save himself some worry and his subordinates a good deal of annoyance. Minsisaippi troops will go out to-night under command of Colonels R. M. Levy and Geo, 8. Green. KILRAIN’S ARRIVAL THIS MORNING was signalized by one of those terrific thun- der-storms for which this portion of the state is noted, Rain fell in sheets for over an hour, turning Gravier, St. Charles and other streets in the business center into rivers, flooding stores and driving the occupants to refuge on counters and chairs. A special train with Professor Donovan of New York and Presidents Wamsley of the Southern athletic club, and Andrew of the California athletic club and others went out at 7:30 this morning to rush the Kilrain party over the Mississippi state line, and they reached here again at 11 o'clock. KILRAIN’S RECEPTION. Kilrain and party arrived here at 11:15 o'clock by the Queen and Crescent route and were Teceived at the depot by an immense crowd of people, who crowded around to see the timore man and almost barred his pr ‘A way was soon cleared for him by the police, and the party proceeded without delay to the carriages, which were in waiting for them. They drove rapidly up to the St. Charles hotel, and thence to the rooms of the Southern gymnastic club, where a reception will be tendered him. Kilrain will be the guest of the club while here and com- fortable quarters have been arranged for him. Kilrain looks well and seemed to be in excel. lent spirits. The carriages which conveyed his party were followed nearly all the way from the depot by a curious crowd of men and boys. The first carriage contained Kilrain, Mit- chell, President Walmsley of the Southern | gymnastic club, and Prof. Mike Donovan, who will probably serve as one of Kilrain’s seconds. In the second carriage were Frank Stevenson, Vice President Campbell, Prof. D. A. Butler and W. E. Harding. In the third carriage were Pony Moore, Johnny Murphy and two members of the club. The program for to-day is luncheon at the club, after which the party will go to the West End to witness a swimming match between Prof. Butler and a man named Clarke, at which Mitchell has consented to act as referee. Kil- rain will spar to-night at an exhibition for the benefit of a local sport. A DETERMINED FIGHT EXPECTED. As the time approaches for the great mill it becomes more apparent that the fight will be one of the most determined on record. There are many reusons for this assertion. The principal one, however, is the bitterness which is felt, not alone as between Sullivan and Kilrain, but on the part of the men who are training the two athletes. The fight will not be alone for supremacy and the 20.000 stake, but the spirit of revenge for real or fancied insults walt hover over the ri: nerve the two giants to do or die. Cnicaco, July 6.—Stete Attorney Longe necker has decided upon a bold move in the case of the men who are already in custody and accused of the mirder of Dr. Cronin. As soon as Burke is returned to Chicago he will put all the defendants on trial, and with that end in view he has begun the preparation of the case for the e. He is satisfied that he has plenty of evidence to send Dan Coughlin, Martin Barke, P. O'Sullivan, John Kunze and Frank Woodruff to the gallows. He believes also, that he will get enough proof before many days have elapsed to convict John F, Beggs, _ ex-senior guardian of the infamous camp The state attorney has about abandoned the idea of securing ‘any criminating evidence against Alexander Sullivan, Michael Boland and Dennis C. Feely, the members of the old triangle, until he can put the others on the direct path to the gallows. As soon as he can satisfy them that their necks are in danger he believes they will tell all they know about the murder. Judge Longenecker said no new evidence had been obtained that would justify the calling of a special grand jury. He received a telegram from his assistant, George Baker, during yes- terday, that the case for the extradition of Burke was Proceeding satisfactorily and be bad no fear of being bfaten out of his man. KUNZE STILL IN CUSTODY. John Kunze was interviewed by Capt. Schuett- ler, Attorney Mills and Attorney Furthmana for over three hours last night. Two Germans, whom the fellow had swindled, and an Ameri- can, whose name is not known, were present at the interview. Mr. Mills declined to say whether the prisoner had squealed. Mr. Furth. maun escaped through the rear entrance of the station to avoid reporters, Capt, Schuettler said, as he has claimed from the outset, that there was no squeal, When prossed for an ex- planation, however, he admitted that Kunze said he had driven Coughlin to Lake View, but when he was further pressed on the subject he claimed that the incident occurred during the investigation of the Shufeldt distillery bomb throwing. The belief last night was general that the prisoner had reiterated enough of his original story to hold him at the Chicago avenue police station for a number of days, HE KNEW NOTHING OF THE MURDER.
