CITY AND DISTRICT. F The way to advertise is to put your announcement where it will be seen by the people you want to reach. Tue Star reaches everybody in Washington, and all advertise- tisements in its columns are regularly and carefully read by all members of the house- bold. BASE BALL YESTERDAY. Defeat of the Senators in Cleveland— Other Games. The reorganized Senators lost a game to Cleveland yesterday by the score of 8 to 2, mainly because the league infants could hit the ball and they couldn't. O’Brien and Zimmer and Healy and Daily were the batteries. Mofrill played at second base, Carney at first and Clarke in right field. Morrill and Carney each made anerror. Carney was the only man who could hit safely more than once, making two singles. Wilmot, Morrill and Daly were the other batters. Healy was exceedingly weak and wild, being touched up safely by every man on the Cleveland team and giving seven bases on balls. The Senators did not score until the ninth, when they made two unearned runs. Washington made 5 hits and 5 errors, and Cleveland 13 hits and 1 error. ee Boston played an old-time game, defeating i by the score of 7 to 3. Clarkson an Bennett, and Tener and Farrell were the bat- teries, Boston made 10 hits and 2 errors and Chicago 5 hits and 5 errors. Tener gave seven bases on balls. Indianapolis scored one in the ninth and an- other in the tenth, and won from New York by the score of 6to5. Boyle and Buckley, and Keefe and Brown were the batteries. New York had to earn every run, while Keefe gave five bases on balls and his support was ragged, Indianapolis made 6 hits and no errors and New York 9 hits and 3 errors. Pittsburg scalped Philadelphia for the fourth time 6 to0. Gaivin and Miller, and Buffinton and Clements were the batteries. Pittsburg made 8 hits and 2 errors, and Philadelphia 3 hits and 4 errors. At St. Louis—St. Louis, 8; Louisville, 2. At Kansas City—Kansas City, 6; Cincinnati, 3. The torrents of rain that fell yesterday neces- sitated the postponement of the third game between the Reporters and the Policemen until Friday, when it will be played with a Marine band accompaniment. To-morrow there w'il be a funny game at Capitol park, between two clubs composed of the local drummers, for the benefit of the canal sufferers. The admission will be but 15 cents. Pittsburg and Indianapolis are chasing each other much after the fashion of a dog with a tin can on its tail—neither can shake the other. If the amateur club craze continues much further here the young aspirants for diamond dust will have to descend to the dictionary for names for their tions. Nearly every rofessional player team named after President Young believes that Morrill is just as good a second-baseman as Myers. ——.__— Transfers of Real Estate. Sketch of the Career of the Venerable Theologian and Author. Ex-President Woolsey, of Yale, died at New Haven yesterday, aged ¢ighty-eight years. He had been in feeble health for some time. Abont three weeks ago he realized that his end was approaching, and, accompanied by his daughter, he made a tour of the campus, tak- ing a farewell look at the familiar college buildings where he had passed so many years of his life. It had for years escaped the eyes of old prospectors because there was nothing about the cave to indicate mineral.
