4 D.C., T THE EVENING STAR has tne fullest Local Circulation of any Newspaper in the Wortd. and as an Advertising Medium is worth more than all the other papers published in Washingt. New York Office: Room 93, Tribune Building. =—_—— The Star Out of Town. Tae Evexixe Star will be sent by mail to any address in the United States or Canada for such period as may be desired, at the rate of fifty cents per month. @2” But all such orders must be accompanied by the money, or the paper cannot be sent, as no accounts are kept with mail subscriptions. 2% — The evidence so far made public inthe Cronin investigation, while vague and inconclusive in the identification of the actual murderers, fur- nishes a strong suggestion that the crime was committed by persons associated in a camp of the Clan-na-Gael, and that other persons con- nected with that camp are trying to shield them. Nothing has yet appeared to indica‘e that the Clan-na-Gael, as a national organization, had anything to do with the crime. Indeed, a strong faction of the organization was al- ways warm in its support of Cronin, and the bulk of its members indignantly re- pudiate responsibility for the murderers aud are apparently making vigorous efforts to detect and expose them. Incidentally the Clan-na-Gael organization, however inno- cent it may be of the Cronin murder, will be subjected to o certain discredit as an un-American, secret society which is evi- dently viewed by some of its members at least as superior in authority to the government of the republic. and to be obeyed even if it orders the commission of crime. But the Irish cause would be threatened with more serious danger in the Cronin matter than the casting of incidental diseredit upon the Clan- na-Gael, if any disposition should be shown by Irishmen to shield the murderers of Cronin. It is better by far that the whole Clan-na-Gael organization should be abandoned than that American sympathy should be in any degree alienated from the cause of Ireland, or that the suspicion of Cronin’s murder should rest upon a national organization of Irish-Americans, Cronin’s murderers must be discovered and punished, and Irish-Ameri- cans are more interested in that result and may properly make greater sacrifices to attain POPULAR SHOPPING PLACE.
