Tue McIyrosu Munper Casz.—The cor- poration court yesterday afternoon disposed of three murder cases at one hearing and with one jury. Bertie McIntosh, the body of whose new-born babe was thrown into Hunting creek some months ago by George Belew, was, as re- ported to Tug Stax, placed on trial for in- fanticide, and, after hearing testimony, the jury acquitted’ her. The same jury, without turther testimony or trial, went out of court in the case of Mrs. Geo. Below and acquitted her, and by the same formality they had also ac- quitted George Below on the charge of being accessary tothe crime. The Citizens’ Relief Committee Nearly Through Their Labors. FORTY THOUSAND DOLLARS RAISED FOR THE FLOOD SUFFERERS—NO PRESSING DEMAND FROM JOHNSTOWN FOR AID—WILLARD HALL CLOSED—THE LIST OF CONTRIBUTIONS TO-DAY. The main work of the citizens’ relief com- mittee practically came to an end to-day. Wil- lard hall, which has been occupied for more than a week with a force of men and women engaged in packing boxes of clothing, was cleaned out and the doors closed. There are several boxes of clothing still on hand. Some of these will be sent to points along the canal, and tbe rest will be stored to await any press- ing demand which may be made, TREASURER JOHNSON AND SECRETARY ANDERSON may be found at the headquarters of the com- mittee each day. But both these gentlemen will now be able to devote some time to their 1 fides business. Ever since the committee been organized they have been busy each day in receiving and keeping a record of the contributions and also attending to the corres- = lence. The mass of detai!s needing atten- ion has been larger than is generally supposed, but the management has beeu prompt and ef- ficient, which is owing largely, Treasurer John- son says, to the assistance rendered by Secre- tary Anderson and his clerical force. As the amount of money received by the committee in little more than a week has reached THE LARGE sUM OF $40,000, considerable time has been required in re- ceiving and properly accounting for the con- tributions, which have come in mainly in small sums. As has been stated the funds now on hand will be retained until it is definitely known where money is most needed. A SHIPWRECKED SAILOR RELIEVED. A bronzed sailor, George Marks, was at Willard hall to-day. He said he was on the schooner Five Brothers, owned in Baltimore and loaded with coal for Alexandria. While off Lower Cedar Point, on Wednesday night of last week, and while all hands were ‘asleep except the man on watch the alarm was given that the schooner was sinking. The crew sprang into the water and made for the shore. larks said there were eight men on board, but he only saw five come ashore. He did not know whether the other three men were drowned or not. The rest of the men remained there near the boat. The captain came to this city to see about getting the schooner up, and Marks says that he has been on his way to this city, having walked most of the way, and reaching here this morning im the steamer Waketield from Quantico, He says that he does not know why the schooner sank, unless she was struck by a log carried along by the swift current, which he claims was more rapid than usual on account of the flood. tle was given some clothing. MR. EMERY RETURNS FROM JOHNSTOWN. Mr. L, §. Emery returned this morning from Johnstown. He says that there are great stacks of clothing and provisions still undis- tributed there. He thinks that there is ample provision for the Johnstown people, and noth- Ing more should be sent there. The money now on hand, he thinks, ought to be retained for future use. He says that a large number of the Johnstown people who lost their houses did not own them, and that in such cases relief wili be given in aiding them to replace their furni- ture.
