BE CLAIMS THAT HE WAS UNDER THE INFLURNCR OF LIQUOR WHEN HE MARRIED THE SECUND TIME. Detective Carter arrived here this morntag with Oscar Harvey, the young man charged with bigamy, as heretofore published in Tae Star, and turned him over to Marshal Wilson, as an indict ment is pending against him. Harvey, it ap- pears, had a wife living in Scranton, Pa., and dur- ing 1885 he visited this city and found his aunt, Mrs. Barnard, who lives at No, 1520 Pierce Place. While stopping at his aunt’s house he fell in love With bis cousin, Miss Minnie Barnard, and they were married by the Rev. Dr. Naylor of ‘the Foun- dry church. He afterward went with wife No, 2 to Rochester, N. ¥., where Mrs. Harvey No.1 found him, and fie then returned to Scranton, He sub- sequently left his first wife and then the prosecu- Uon was begun, Mrs Bacon, of Scranton, sister of the first wife, made the com- jaint and was assisted by Mrs. Barnard in rocuring the indictment. The officers received information that Harvey had fed to Canada. Marshal Barring, of Scranton, Interested himself in the case and learned that that Was the Case. Several weeks ago Harvey re- turned to Scranton for a day, and on his second Visit there he was arrested. Last Friday a hearing Was had before Commissioner Wilson in Scranton, and Harvey was heid for court. The case Was taken to Pittsburg, Where it Was heard yesterday, and the judge made ao order of removal, bolding Harvey in $2,000 bail, Harvey is thirty-two years old, and his father lives in Kansas City, Where he Js in the railroad business, He claims that he was ‘under the influence of liquor at the time of his sec- ond marriage, and this statement is corroborated by’ persons who were at the Wedding. Harvey was comunitted to Jail to-day. “Rough on Rats.” A YOUNG MAN FHOM BOSTON RELIEVED OF A DOSE. Sunday morning, about 4:30 o'clock, 8 young man suffering intense pain from the effects ot ar- senical poison administered by his own hands, en- tered the Emergency Hospital, He was vomiting at the time, and desired to be treated for taking a dose of “Rough on Rats.” Dra. McKone and Gill attended him, and succeeded in reiieving him of his suffering. He remained in the hospital until about 9 o'clock yesterday morning, when he had sufficiently recovered to be discharged. This morning, when a Stan reporter called at the hospital, Dr. Gill sai that the above statement was correct. The young he said, Was from Boston and was living in the West End. He refused to give his name because the latter had requested and he had promised not to tell it to any One. The young man, he said, was suffering intense pain when he entered the Lospi- tal and told them that he had become despondent and “ratued.” What he meant by “ratt ‘the doctor said he did not know, and ht that he elther meant that his girl had gone back on him or that he had lost bis situation.
