OS ee Hope For the Anarchists. RUMOR THAT THE SCFREME COURT Has DECIDED IN FAVOR OF A NEW TRIAL A rumor that the Illinois Supreme Court had de- cided to give the condemned anarchists.a new trial Was put tnto circulation in Chicago yesterday. ‘The intelligence was to the effect that a majority | of the judges sitting on the Supreme Bench had | decided in favor of the points submitted by Capt. Black and Leonard Swett why the sentence pro- nounced by Judge Garry on the Haymarket assas- sins should not be executed, at least before another hearing was allowed the condemned. The origin of the rumor, so far asit can be traced, appeared to be in the civil courts in the | county building, and the rumor that the anarch- | ists were indeed to have a new trial was common talk among lawyers, From these it was learned. that the Supreme Court Judges had already dic- | tated their opinion and that ‘the declaration that } this opinion Was favorable to the anarchists came from ‘court ¢ Who had access to the docu- ments. The story, as circulated, occasioned a sen- | Sation tn and avout the county butiding, el for the defense and prosecution were in- | 7] terviewed on the subject, but had no information. ‘Tae “defense contidently anticipates such a de- | eiston, but ic 15 not expected that the opinion of | the supreme Court will be tiled before September, ___ SUMMER_ RESORTS. _EDUCATIONAL. 8.
