Mrs. Little Convicted. A PLEA FOR MEKCY SUPPORTED EY AN EXHIBITION OF THE FAMILY. ‘The trial of Mary E. Little, the mother of the two boys who were sentenced to the penitentiary last Saturday for burglary, was concluded in the Criminal Court yesterday afternoon. Mrs. Little was charged with receiving the property stoien by her sons in the Renshaw and Dooley robberies. ‘The jury convicted her on the count of the indict ment relating to the Renshaw property, with a recommendation to the mercy of the court, and ac- quitted her on the other count. Mr. 'T. C. Taylor, her counsel, asked that she be disinissed’ on her own recognizance for appearance for sentence Sat urday morning. THE ALLEGED PENSION FRAUD. “Blind Patterson” and Others Arrested im Virginia, Last evening Special Agent Jacobs, of the Pen- sion Office, with Sheriff Ricketts, of Orange County, Va; Assistant United States Marshal T. W. Scott, and Assistant United States Attorney Gibson, of the eastern district of Virginia, ar- rived here, having in charge Francis Patterson, bis wife, and Henry W. Mills, the seventeen-year- old son of Dr. Robt. N. Mills, who were arrested yesterday near Stanardsville, Va., for participation in the Blind Patterson pension case, which, it is alleged, was a fraud, ‘They were locked up for the night at the rst precinct station, and will be Jno, Laidiow, witness: arreated in Wirgiais and Jno, Wa in last week, had a hearing yesterday, and was COM mitted to'Jail for a hearing on July'@. ‘Patterson was a soldier during the rebellion, and claims to have lost bis sight in the service, and, subsequently made his way back to bis home at Elmira. His name was borne on the rolls of the War nt as a deserter, and when applica- tion Was made some years since for a pension it failed on” account of the Tecord. About two years ago, in consequence of legislation by Congress, the claim was revived, the record of desertion being removed. 1t 4s alleged that Dr, Mills, as the agent, worked the case, he being then # resident of this city, room- ing ‘on Missouri avenue, between 43 and 6th streets. “A few weeks ago the claim Was allowed and the arrearages (the largest ever paid In one Sum) $13,250 was paid. Tt 1s claimed that Mills got almost the entire amount of the claim and failed to pay $1,000 which one of the witnesses claimed was to be him, and this treatment cai him inform oa Mills, and hence the arrests.
