KELLY, OF THR POLICE FORCE, APPLIES FOR MEMBERSHIP. ‘Yesterday afternoon, as Lieut. Kelly was passing along Pennsylvania avenue between 3d and 43 streets, he noticed Mr. Bridwell, the saloon keeper, Standing at his front door. As the Heutenant ay proached the house the proprietor stepped Inside the doorway, but returned a minute later, and the Meutenant informed him he was looking after the Sunday whisky business. Mr. Bridwell denied that he was selling, Dut said there was a club which met upstairs, and invited the Heutenant up. The invitation was accepted, and the leutenant found Seated in the club room three satlors, a reporter, gad two other men. A sociable game of ‘Was in progress, and on a table was a copy of the Police Gazette and other papers. The constitution of the club was produced and !ts name was shown to be the “Ideal Socials.” ‘The initiation fee was25 cents, and it provided that each member be furnished akey. ‘The lieutenant drew a quarter from his porket and offered to become a member.
