SUNDERLAND TALES ON THE NEED OF OR- GANIZATION—ADDRESSES BY JUDGE MACAR- THUR AND OTHERS—OFFICERS CHOSEN FoR THE YEAR—THE CHARITY ORGANIZATION Socrery. Last evening the annual meeting of the As- Sociated Charities was held at the Vermont Avenue Christian church and there was a very good attendance. Judge W. B. Snell presided, with Mr. L.S. Emery as general secretary. The Proceedings were opened with prayer by Rev. Alex. Kent, and Mr. L.S. Emery read the an- nual report, showing that there had been con- tributed $3,346.99 during the year. The num- ber of applications for assistance was 1,268, out of which 527 were aided with money and 212 furnished employment. In addition to this 1,000 garments of clothing, 400 loads ot wood and a large amount of groceries were distribut- ed. Rev. Dr, Sundetiand was the first speaker, and after reierence to the various societies en- gaxed in whole or in part in relieving the poor, the amount of good resulting only veing knowa to God, he reierred to the system of the Associated Charities as the best. This, however, was not worked,to the extent that i should be.
