‘The Mellon Case. A WASHINGTONIAN WHO OBSERVED S0ME STRANGE DOINGS AT CAPE MAY LAST SUMMER. Mr. Anatole B. Dennis, who was employed as clerk at the Stockton hotel, Cape May, for the season of 1885, has been interviewed in Phila- deiphia in regard tothe Mellen case. Adrian L. Mellen, of Baltimore, who managed the Stock- ton hotel last summer, is now @ fugitive from Justice in Mexico, having been indicted in Bos- ton, along with a’ woman named Anna Amelia Coolidge and James Donohue alias Ball, for conspiracy tomurder Mary Somerset, the young wile of Mellen’s son, Edward Mellen. Mra, Mellen, jr., was taken ill about this time and remained in a dangerous condition for some days. Her physician was Dr, Thomas Hay, of this city, who at the time was staying, with his family, at the Stockton, The son, Ed was sent away to Baltimore shortly after his wife was taken ill, Dr. Hay was forced to use threaiening arguments to the attendants on Mrs. Mellen, jr., before they would follow his instructions, me day he called on her, ex- pecking convalescence was at hand, when he found “her almost dead. Her husband being absent in Baltimore, Mrs. Mellen, sr., was Spoken to, but she refused to go near her. Mr. Mellen, sr., was next told of her condition, and he, too, retused to do anything or tosend any one to her rooms. I took the doctor's prescrip- tions and dispatehed a boy to the drug store and then summoned the housekeeper. The doctor gave the latter instructions to allow no one to administer the medicines but herself.
