In the Criminal Court, Judge MacArthur, yesterday, the trial of W.B. Moses, C.C. Cole and James A. McDevitt, indicted for consptracy to extort certain securities from George Taylor, by taking him to New Orleans, June 30th, 1884, ‘was continued after our report closed. Messrs. Eland, of the Post: DeWitte, of the Republican: George H. Jagneson and Col, Robt. Christy testified as to interviews in whieh the object of the arrest was stated. Mr. Wilson asked for the discharge of his client, Mr. Cole,on the ground that the te mony’ disiinetly disclosed that all that he had done was done merely as an attorney in the interest of his elient. Cook supplemented the motion with an- asking for the discharge of all the de- ants on the ground, first, that there was no charged in the indictment; second, if one was charyed it was go improperly eluarged that conviction could not be warranted; third, a relation to Mr. Cole the government's testimony had closed. and failed to show that he did atizht beyond what an attorney advising with bis client should do, and there was no tes- timony to justify a verdict against him. These motions were argued to the hour of adjournment. ARGUMENTS TO-DAY. This morning the argument on the motion made yesterday was continued by Messrs, Wilson and Cook forthe defendant and Dis- trict Attorney Worthington and Assistant Dis- trict Attorney Coyle for the government.
