A Proposition Made to Search Grave Yards—Other Mysterious Disappear- ances. Nothing in connection with the mysterious disappearance of the Montgomery county mil- Jer, Haviland, has been heard of at police head- quarters to-day. Some gentlemen from that county inthe city to-day state that there Is some talk ont on the 7th street road about searcning some graves where recent inter- ments have been made for the body of the missing man. There are no less than four burial grounds in the immediate neigh- borhood of the place where the assault is supposed to have occurred. It ts thought a body might have been buried in one of them. Nothing farther has been heard by the police authorities of the box landed at Germantown, Md., some days ago. Superintendent Dye states that the case of Haviland is not more strange than some that have happened in this city. Asan instance he cited the case of young Altman, which occurred about two years ago. Altinan’s father, a draughtsman in the War department, died suddenly, and at his own request, made before death, the remains were taken to Chambers burg by his son and there cremated and his ashes returned to this city. Very soon after- wards the son disappeared and has not yet been seen or heard from. Other instances were cited of similar mysterious disappearances. No one knows positively that Mr. Haviland is dead. He may have become suddenly affected with unsound mind and wandered off. Such in- stances have been known. THE GERMANTOWN TRUNK. The B. and O. express authorities have ascer_ tained that the mysterious trunk at German- town, Md., was sent there by mistake, and that it contains clothing of a lady, well packed in camphor, sent from a lady ‘in this city toa friend. —— The New York Sub-Treasury.
