Siowen, who was well known in this city several years ago a3a prominent-ward Politician, and was a memb:r of the city coun- ceils from the first ward, dled suddenly this Morning, at his house, 2115 H street northwest. He kept a drug store at the corner of Pennsyl- Varia avenue and 20th street for several years, and atterwards a similar store in South Wash ington, but became addicted to intoxicating ¢rinks, and has been quite reduced 1a pecuul- ary circumstances In consequence of It. At onetime he practiced asa physician. but not being a graduate of any medical school did not meet with much success. Dr. Murphy, of Co- lumbia hospita:, was called to see him. but When he arrived the patient was dead. Noticing in the papers recently some trouble With the Herdic Personai Transportation Com- psny of Philadelphia, I wish to ake a plain ‘Statement of what came under my own observa- tion.I met Mr. Dragon, of Kansas City,who had bought the right to run the Herdics there, and trom what I learned from him concluded to zo east at once and get thoroughly posted in re- gard to the matter and make some arrange- ments for their use. Having been In the transportation business all my life, such management seemed strange to me, and the coaches would soon be ruined. OBLITERATING HOLMEAD CEMETARY. The District Commissioners have caused the cedar grove of Holmead cemetery to b3 cut away, inthe march of improvements in that direction, and have advertised for sealed p-o- posals for the purchase of the cedar posts— some of them of extraordinary large szo— about two hundred or more in number.
