Mr, Reagan then brielly explatned the provisions of the bill. Mr, Cox called attention to the fact that more Uhan one-half of the $10,000,000 was given to tue states represented on the committee. Mr. Reagan closed the debate in a five-minute Speech. tn which he asserted that the bill ap- propriated less than 40 percent of the esul- mates. Referring to Mr. Cox’s remarks that the states represented on the commerce com- mittee lad obtalned a large portion of the appropriations, he called attention to the fact that fifteen states were represented on that committee, and that these states were the ones in which the largest rivers and harbors were situated. ‘The motion to suspend the rules und p: bill was then rejected—yeas 160, nays Si—not the necessary two-thirds in the aftirmative. Some three months ago the Child’s father found a large white dog running at large in the street, which he took home. The dog was very gentle, and soon becamea favorite with the children of | the family. On the morning of the lotn of January little Johnny was clothed in his first pants by his loving parents, and as he prow marched into the front room, feellug ilke a fuli- grown man. with both his lttie hands deep in is side pockets, the dog, which evidently did not recognize the proud boy in his new suit of clothes. growled siigntly at him, and when Johnny, in boyish glee, attempted to p..t him on the back, the animal, objecting to the famllarity, virned and bit him tn the left cheek, burying five of his long teeth in the yielding flesh of the child. The dog was at once Killed. The child seemed to bave & presentiment that the bite would prove fatal. but no evil effects were apparent until last Wednesday morning. On that day Johnny was taken with violent vomiting, and very soon all the symptoms of hydrophobla appeared. ‘The child rapldly grew Worse, and the sight of water threw htm into violent convuistons. The doctors gave up the case agjuopeless, and coniined themselves to ai- fording the child temporary relief. Tne rapid development of the disease occasions some tatk among the medical profession. About six weeks ago another of the children was bitten by the same dog. but has not yet experieaced any ill effects om the bite. Some PROPLE think It exceedingly vulgar to learn a trade.
