REUBEN JouNsTON, Esq., one of Alexundria’s Most prominent citizens, died suddenly at his residence, on Prince street, to-day. Mr. John- ston had been suffering with a bad-cold for about two weeks. The de- ceased was born in this city October 24th, He learned the art of printing, and served ta some of the best offices of bis aay in New York and Washington, among them the old National Intelligencer office, in the latter city, from which so many of the prominent men of the country graduated. Afterwards be was ad- laitted to the barof Alexandria. He was for about thirty years auditor of the corporation and clerk of the common council. On the orgaplvation of the Washington and Ohio Ratl- Toad Company he was appointed secretary and treasurer, which position he Miled with credit to bimseif and satisfaction to the company up to the time of bis death, a period of 25 years; he Was also clerk of the Alexandria Canal Com- pany, for 4 number of years. He served in the Plerpont, Alexandria legislature, and sequently in the Virginia legislature of 1569-70, at Kicbmond. He was past master of Alexan— dtla Washington Lodge of Masons, and at his death was senior warden of Christ (Episcopat) church.
