This poor woman bas been in this voubtry Only eight months and, without friends has been In Peters’ employ as a servant. Peters saysshe stole his watch last Sunday. She denied the charge and was very much effected at the disgrace of the situation in wh ch she has been placed by her employer. BIDS FOR GRANITE PAVING BLOCKS, Bids were opened in the office of the District Commissioners at 12 o'clock to-day, to furnish and deliver at tke property yard ot the District of Columbia, 800,000, more or less, granite paving blocks of the uniform size, of not more than S nor less than 6 inehes in length; in width not more than 5 nor less than 3 inches and in depth not more than 6 nor less than 53. Two hundred thousand of these blocks to be delivered on or before June 1st, 400,000 on or before July 3d, and 200,000 on or before August 15th. | The bids were as follows:- Old Dominion Granite Company, $41 per thousand; J.
