Discovery of a Scientific Cause fo is Wonderful fiuman Force." = Why Some People are Marvel- ously megane’ le and Others Not at Au. How Magnetism can she ire Controlled by those wie Do. 74 Not Posse: A Few Forcible Facts. There is present in every person a certain power, which, for want of a better name, has been called Persons! Magnetism. In some it can hardly be perceived, while in others it is so powerful as to at- tract the attention of all. Many attempts have been made to account for it, but with only partial success. It is certainly not the result of the will power nor of any special mental forces, because many persons who have little will and less mind are personally very magnetic. In chemical electricity the current is generated by the union of the solids in the battery with the liquids, through dissolution. In the human battery it is reasonable to suppose magnetic force comes from some powerful union of the chemical elements which takes place in the sys- tem. This union must of necessity be carried on in the kidneys, and hence it marks them as the seat of magnetic power inthe body. These members generate the liquid elements within, and from this generation comes a mysterious force which cannot be understood nor explained and can only be felt. This power varies in individuals just in proportion as the organs which produce it are powerful or weak. Destroy the kidneys and you destroy the personal magnetism which they cause. Restore the kidneys and you bring back the power which they alone can produce. This isa new truth but one which the experience of every careful observer will confirm. It shows the great necessity of keep- ing the kidneys in a healthy condition, for not only the joys of health, the certainty of a terrible death, but one of the great powers of life are dependent upon them. So mysterious have their operations been in the past that scientists supposed they were beyond their power, and Bright's disease has been considered as fatal as consumption. It has been proven beyond a doubt, however, that the pure West India leaf extract, known as Warner's Safe Kidney and Liver Qure, will relieve, restore and regulate these organs in em case. Its value to humanity can thus readily be seen. If perfect health, long life and Personal Magnetism are de- sired the kidneys must be kept in perfect order, and there is only one certain way by which this can be done, which is by employing the valuable remedy above named and keeping it constantly on hand. As drugwists in every part of the land sell it, the difficulty is slicht, while the end is the most desirable. MISCELLANEOUS. pusraw FABM GREENHOUSES, Office, 807 Market Space, ‘38 .C. SENATE.—After our report closed— Two or three hours were consumed in discuss- ing the District of Columbia_appropriation bill, and after several amendments had been adopted the bill was passed. The following were the amendments adopted: “And that from and after the thts act, and only so long as appropriations are made by Congress toaid In the support of the following institutions, societies, associations, respectively, one of the Commissioners of the District of Columbia, to be selected by the board of Commissioners, shall be a trustee, with all the powers, privileges, and duties of other trustees of the reform school and of the Colum- bia hospital for women and lying-in asylum. There was a long debate on an amendment offered by Senator Beck to strike out $29,000 for the purchase of the Police Court building. It was lost—yeas 22, nays 33. Au amendment was adopted to the school section, providing ‘that in the sixth school di- vis‘on (county) the sum appropriated may be used for one or more school buildings and sites when necessary.” HOUSE.—After our report closed— The postal appropriation bill was further con- Sidered, and the amendment to strike out the proviso abolishing the “star service,” was adopted—yeas 94, nays 71. The appropriation for route agents was increased $50,000. The consideration of the bill having been concluded, the committee rose and reported the bill to the House. The matn question was then moved, and Mr. Blackburn moved that the House take @ recess until 10:30 to-day for the purpose of «disposing of the bill, pending which Mr. chairman of the committee on Indian affairs, reported back the bill ratifying the Ute agree- ment. Mr, Blackburn's motion was then agreed 10, and the House at 4:50 took a recess as stated, Political Conventions, THE ANTI-THIRD TERM MEN, ‘The anti-third term national republican con- vention was cailed to order in St. Louis at o'clock yesterday by Gen. Henderson, who called to the chair Mr. E. C, Hubbards, of Ken- tucky, a delegate to the Chicago convention. Permanent organization was effected, with John hk. Henderson, of Mo., as president,’ and a vice president from each state represented. Resolu- Uons were adopted setting forth declarations in accordance with the foreguing expressions, and providing that a national Committee of one liun- dred be appointed and instructed, in the event of the nomination of Gen. Grant, to meet in New York at the callof the chairman of the committee, and there to elect, in such manner as they shall then deem best to carry out the spirit and purpose of these resolutions: the sald committee to be selected bya comualttee of thir- teen, and published at its earliest convenience. The following committee was chosen by the convention in accordance with the proviso of the platform: Lucian Eaton, Dr. Emil Practor- tus, of St. Louis; Henry Hitchcock, E. H. Hub- bard, W. L. Allerton, J. V. Carter, Messrs, Wood and Jones, of Pennsylvania; R. A. Hill, of Indiana; W. W. Will of Minnesot lutord Wilson, of Illinois, N. Whitridge, of New York; John B. Henderson, of St. Louis. The commit- tee above named was instructed to appoinia committee of five to present the resolutions to the Chicago convention. MARYLAND REPUBLICANS FOR BLAINE. At 11:30 o'clock last. night the committee on credentials and permanent organization of the Maryland state republican convention at Ired- erick were ready to report, and the convention reassembled. The chairman of the committee, James A. Garry, of Howard, submitted a report recommending that the temporary officers be made permanent, which was adopted. Also, that the delegations from the second Ik lative district of the city of Baltimore, and that trom Baltimore county, admitted in the morning by the chairman of the state central committee, were duly entitled to seats in the convention: and further, that both delegations from the first and third legislative districts of Baltimore city be admitted, the two delegations from each dis- trict to be entitled each to half the vote of their respective districts. Alter much confusion the clatr pul the question and declared the report Of the committce adopted. A resolution that in obcdience to the overwhelming sentiment of the republicans of the state in favor of Hon. James G. Blaine the delegates to Chicago be requested to use all honorable means t> secure his nomi- nation for President was adopted. DELAW+R= REPUBLICANS FOR Bi 3 Tt was not until half-past six o'clock last eve- ning that a permanent organization was reached in the Delaware republican state convention at Dover. The contending delegations were almost equally divided. the vote at one tme on a test question being 69 to 71. Resolutions were finally adopted giving the delegates to Chicago disere- iton to vote on all questions as they liked. Mr. Fraine offered a resolution appotnting Christiaa. Febiger and Levi G. Clarke, of New Castle coun- ty; N. B. Smithers and Jas. R. Lofland, of Kent: Benj. Burton and Albert Curry, of Sussex, del gates to Chicago. This, like everything else, was fought by the large minority, who insisted that the delegates should be chosen by counties, as in former years. However, it was evenwually adopted, and the convention adjourned. The delegates go to Chicago uninstructed, but will Probably vote for Blaine. OHIO DEMOCRATS FOR THURMAN. The Ohio democratic convention met at Co- lumbus yesterday. George L. Converse was chosen permanent chairman. — Addressing the convention, he said that none of the candidates named by the republicans expected to be legal- ly elected, but expected, by ether force, chica- nery or fraud, to get themselves into office. Resolutions were adopted instructing the dele- gates at large and requesting the district dele- gates to the Cincinnati convention to vote for and urge the nomination of Mr. Thurman for the presidency, and also instructing the delega- Uon to cast the vote of the state as a unit; also recommending to the national convention the two-thirds rule in nominating candidates. The following were elected delegates at large: J. H. Wade, Durbin Ward, John Sweeney and James B. Steedman; alternates: A. V. Rice, Thomas E. Powell, Charles Hill and A. R. Van Cleat. THE TENNESSEE REPUBLICAN CONVENTION at Nashville yesterday nominated Alvin Haw- kins, of Carroll, for Be by acclamation. Resolutions were adopted declaring that the bonds of Tennessee are binding in law and in morals; that any attempt to impair thiséndebt- ; edness, or readjust or scale it, without the con- sent of holders, is gp omer dishonesty; that the refusal of the democratic Patty 19 ‘accept the proposition of the bondholders ‘was a refu- salof a liberal and” voluntary reduction, and recognizing in such refusal evidence that a large majority of the democratic party in the State intend to repudiate the bonded debt of the state, leading logical inference that the party generally will eventually seek to re- judiate the debt of the United States. General seorge Maney and A. A. Taylor were chosen electors at large. The delegates to Chicago were requestea to recommend for the Vice Pres- idency of the United States Hon. Horace May- nard. The delegates at large are L. C. Houck, J. M. Thornburg, S. H. Harrison and Da- vid Munn. NEW HAMPSHIRE REPUBLICANS FOR BLAINE.
