A discussion arose in the House as to whether agreement had been entered into, stating that had he not undersiood that there was such an agreement he would have contended for a longer general debate upon the bill. “I cannot understand.” sald he, (addressing the democratic side.) “why you want to run away from this battle-feld. Where are your plumed knights of Navarre? You seek to run from this tleld. What is the matter with you?” Mr. Sparks stated that he had distinctly ob- fetes to any agreement as to any general ¢ ate upon the pending proposition, but he was willing to allow a reasonable time.
