Most of the letures sold on this occasion were small Dut the prices obtained were neverthe- fess high, a8 for example: A “‘ Venus Attired by the Graces,” $2,650; “The Tuogment of Paris,” $2,110; * The Shepherdess of t @ Alps,” $2,295. — The collection of pictures belonging to Mr. J, Abner Harper, of Harper & Brothers, is to be sold at auction in New York on the 12th and 13th inst. The distinguishing characteristics of Mr. Harper's catalogue are that it contains the names of nearly all the lea ling and popular art- ists of the day, both American and foreign, and that the pictures are mostly of small or inet ‘Size, suitable for parlor rather than gallery uses. = is safe to assume, therefore, that the sale will be largely attended and the bidding spirited. — Several of the cabinet are making lauable efforts to collect portraits, tn oll, of their prede_ cesssors for their several department. He has, however, so Inany de- mands for landscapes that he has little or no time to give it that attention which his facliaa- tion prompts. —At the recent Artists’ Fund sale in New York Messrs.
