B. Clark, at LaGrange last Wednesday. On his person Were found a pawn ticket and four cartridges. The pawn ticket called for a five-barreied pis- tol, and, as it was ‘‘soaked” on Thursday, it looks very much as if Petre committed the deed. In his trunk were found several pictures of Mrs. Clark, anda couple of envelopes ad- dressed to her. She is known to have visited him at his sister's house, and it is alleged she frequently came to town to see him since his discharge. He denies having commiited the deed, and says there was vever any criminal intimacy between Mrs. Clark and himself. The whole affair looks very mysterious, and it is doubtful if it will be cleared UP for som= time. The doctors failed to find the bullet, and the evidence against St. Petre is only circum stantial. eA New York woman says: ‘* Were it not for the self-sacrificing wo:nen of the land who marry and support so miny men, the Sui ber of tramps would be largely increas. ed. 4%-The Chicago Times says that in surf ee doesn’t count for as much as gah.” 4&#-A constant watch is kept over Minnie Warren’s praye to prevent its desecration by grave robbers. 4&e-At Memphis they have a twelve. pounder Parrot gun mounted to stop all blockade-run- bing steamboats from the fever infected dis- triets below. 4%-The Austrian Major-General Count Ra. detzky, only son of the deceased marshal o: that name, shot himself through the head late ly at Giert, and died soon after.
