Editor Star:—I desire to occupy a little space in your valuable paper in regard to a matter involving the convenience of a large majority of the people of East Washington. Formerly there were dissimilar cars travers- ing the avenue; the red light going to the Navy Yard, and the blue to the Capitol or depot. A person desiring to go to the Navy Yard could always distinguish whieh car to select to carry them to their destination. But now the colors are similar, and persons desir- ing to go to the Navy Yard, or east of the Cap- itol, in the evening, are often turned out of the car in inclement weather at the nav: find it crowded almost beyond standing room. I was more incensed because there were two or three ladies amongst the passen- ers. After the foregoing experience, I have en in the habit of inquiring of the conduc when stepped on the car whether he is going past the Capitol; if not I Stepped off and waited for the car 1 wanted, preferring to do all the waiting at once, rather than be sub- jected to the transfer annoyance at the naval monument. On Sature boarded a ea’ quiry, and w y evening last during the rain I at Willard’s, made my usual in- informed by the ‘conductor that he was going throuzh. “Arriving at the monument I was handed a transfer. “I there: fore remonstrated with the conductor for de- ceiving me, when the man had the assurance to deny it. However, I got wet, and a cold also, and had to stand on the front platform the Breater portion of the way to the navy yar d. “The remedy for this inconvenience is a very simple one.
