In Baltimore, Mayor Latrobe will receive sub- scriptions at the city hall. es ;A DoG BURNED IN A FURNACE.—A sin- gular case of hese fl to animals was tried in the court of special sessions yesterday, be- fore Justice organ, Murray, and Dufty. Thomas Dickinson, engineer of the Harlem Orphan Asylum, was charged with haying thrown a living dog into the furnace of the boiler of hisenzine. Mr. Bergh, whoappear- edin behalf ofthe Society forthe Preven- ton of Cruelty to Animals, opened the case by calling four boys inmates of the institu- tion who agreed in saying that Mr. Dickic- fon. after hanging the dog with a piece of belt lace, had cut it down while yet alive, | and had thrown it into the furnace, and that they had seen the animal move after haying ocon thrown in. They also testified that the dog. which was only seven months old, was not vicious, but was of a Kindly, playful dis- position. Mr. Bergh asked that the heaviest penalty be imposed. The Judges, after con- sultation, imposed a fine of $100 on the pris- oner.—(N. ¥. Tunes, 20th, re indemand this warm weather to make one’s blood rua cold. &7 A jealous husband in Little Rock, Ark.
