THE SYNOD OF BALTIMORE begins its anpual sessions today at the Wicomico Preabyter! church, Salisbfry, Md. The Synod of Baltimore is one of the thirty-six synods into which the Presbyterian church in the United States is at present divided. It is composed of the four presbyteries— Baltimore, New Castle, Riode Janeiro and | Wasbington city—which in the aggregate number, according to the statistics of the | Jast general assembly, 128 ministers, 3 licensed preachers, 132 churches, 14,704 com: mupicants, 16,012 Sunday school scholar: making, with @ bon-professing attend- ants, & constituency of about 50.000 acherents. Jobn Williams, assault on Martha Shorter; $20. THE House MvuRDER TRIAL—Strange Action of a Brother of the Dead Lawyer.—The trial of Mrs. Irene A. House for the murder of ber husband, Orson A. House, a New York lawyer and real estate agent, was com- menced in Mercer county, New Jersey, yes- lerday. It will be recollected that in an Sitereation at their country residence in New Jersey a few months since, Mrs. House drew a pistol and shot ber husband in the bead, inflicting a wound from which he died in @ few hourr.
