Dr. Williams. | THE LITTLE ACROBAT — The Decision of | Judge Wylie Taking the B Of His Brothers.—Y esterday Court, Judge Wy acrobat, Zanlo Poole, was heard, and after the reading of testimony by Mr.’ F. Miller for Mr. Gatchell and Mr.8.T. Thomas for the Poole Brothers had been concludet, counsel argued the case. The boy was taken from the custody of his brethers while per- forming at the Theater Comique some weeks ago, on a writ of habeas corpus, sued out by Mr. T. F. Gatchell, who alleged in the peti- tion that the performance was dangerous to Ife and limb, and demoralizing. Judge Wylie held that the brothers had forfeited their right to the boy by their cruel treatment, in compeliing him to perform feats which endanger life and limb. Uniontown, had its mnas tree festival last evening. Many of the teachers were then the recipients of valued remembrances from their classes. Among them M..Crook, teacher of the female Bibic class, and Mrs. Murtagh. Miss Rachel Gar- rett, the organist, was also remembered. The school now has over 300 scholars, and is constantly receiving new accessions. An enlargement of their school room room seems an imperative necessity. Calvary Baptist S 'y School. with those of Kendall Chapel, 13% and D streets south- west, and Calvary Chapel, 5th and P streets, held @ Christmas festival at the Calvary Church, Sth and H streets, last evening. The chureb was handsomely decorated with fes- toons of evergreens, &¢ , andevery seat was filled. Mr. William Stickney, superinten- dent of the Home school, presided, and Mr. W. 8. Stickney officiated at the organ. The exercises consisted of the singing of Christ- mas crrols; reading of the second chapter of Luke by Mr. Stickney, the Lord’s Prayer; remarks by the superintendent; address by Rev. Merrymaa, a county cor- stable, who testified that yesterday he went to Mrs. Hogan's house to serve a writ of res. titution when Mrs. H. went for bim witha hatchet, saying, “you old rascal, I'll split you open.” Counsel for detendant offe1 to show that the writ and the whole procecd- ings were illegal and that defendant had a right to use sufficient force to eject this in- truder, who went in a back eutrance without leave or license. On cross-examination Merryman testified that she clubbed him | over the shoulders with a broom-stick, aud made him leave. Fordefence it was testided that Merryman went there with two men and the woman ordered him to leave and he refused to do so, When she went towards him with @ hatchet and Merryman took it away from her by force, and struck her violently in her side. Another witness saw a hatehet thrown to Merryman, and saw the latter clinch Mrs..Hogan, shake her and strile her. The court stated that the precept of the officer would protect him in this case.
