Colmntea, EVERY GARMENT Mart, Redivivas. WILL BE FORCED OFF Henry Hart, pawnbroker, Chatham street, AT ONCE. New York, by a close attention to bis busi- ness of bleeding the poor, and by a system of sharp economy, embracing the utilization of bis cirty little pawn shop, as a sleeping rocm, dining room, and kitchen, has made himself @ millionaire. The public here, Would, however, care very little about Mr. Henry Hart, bis business practices, or his perronal habits, but for the fact that, unfor- tanately, he owns, or controls, a consider- able portion of the stock of the Washington and Georgetown railroad, and that he seeks to manage this road in the same penurious, grinding, squalid style that prevails in his Chathhm-street den. The people of Wash- ington will not soon forget the late Hart regime over this road—the filthy, ricketty, upventilated, vermin-infested cars, with smoky lamps and impracticable windows; the miserable, worn-out tracks, so badly kept that the cars were off them quite as often as on them; and when it was the com- Inonest of occurrences to have the whole travel of a street blocked up while the effort was belpg made by drivers, conductors and passengers to help the wretched, half-starved borses to lift @ wrecked car upon the dilapt- dated rajis. And all this shabby meanness of management was not in the line of econo- my for the benefit of the stockholders, but to enable Mr. Hart to keep up his little Credit Mobilier inside ar rapgement, which included @ salary of $10 000 perannum for Mr. Hart's New York “president bis own salary as vice presi- dent, mileage, hotel expenses, and extras for his New York directors on their trips to Washington, and the various fat things in EPERG? the way of contracts and supplies peculiar | KE7S, to Credit Mobilier operations, where the in- ner-cirele get the profits, and the outside Stockholders get assessments instead of divi- dends. By Mr. Hart overdid the bleeding, depletion business—the disgusted public re- fused to ride in bis dirty, uncomfortable cars, the revenues of the road fe!i off, and in some unaccountable way the indebtedness Was increased, though nothing was done for the accommodation of the public. But two per cent. dividend had been declared for two years, and it would appear that the money Was borrowed to pay even this amount It was found to be imperative, for the Salvation of the road that capable Dis- Rralst THESE ARE THE REDUCTIONS MADE: $25... 8UITS BEDUCED TO.........$15 $25..0VERCOATS REDUCED TO...918 822........80ITS REDUCED TO.......816 $22..OVERCOATS REDUCED TO..816 820.
